They won't know him for his terrible TV work over there but it would be funny if he was was responsible for turning over Barca. He seems to be another Owen type who was a good footballer but don't have the right attributes to work in the game or media afterwards, happens a fair bit, Bobby Charlton was similar. Not sure how long it is going to take BT Sport to get rid of Owen
Have to agree his brother is much better, and Owen just doesn't have it, I have to say I like Kevin Kilbane who comes across well.
There is an article by former cricketer Ed Smith in the current "Intelligent Life" magazine about how the skills needed to be a good pundit are almost the opposite from being a good player. It basically makes the case for professional commentators and pundits rather than ex-pros, although it does highlight a case study on the excellent Richie Benaud as a rare exception. Here is a podcast link to a discussion about it, for anyone interested: http://www.intelligentlifemagazine.com/content/from-playing-to-punditry
BREAKING: Gary Neville has been appointed as Head Coach of Valencia until the end of the season. His brother remains as his No.2.
Well that's a twist I didn't see coming. There's now speculation that he's using this as a stepping stone to the England job next year when Hodgson steps down.
Bit of a bolt out of the blue that one, thought I'd misheard it when they said Gary Neville not his numpty brother! Maybe this was Valencias cunning plan all along, lure in the quality Neville by dangling the inferior one as bait..
I think his summarising and understanding of the game is excellent. He is far, far more clued up on the world game than 95% of your average punters and doesnt live in the Premier League bubble. He's just got a **** voice hence people dont listen to what he says and simply switch off yet the same people enthuse about clueless, unprepared, unresearched morons like Ian Wright, Paul Merson and Chris Kamara because they have 'passionate' voices ie they shout a lot. Work that one out.
I'm not sure on that, I've heard him come out with some really bizarre stuff (Phil not Gary) in his analysis before, the only one who tops him for it is Michael Owen. He probably does know a fair bit but maybe can't express it very well
