Not taking anything away from the team's win. But what did you guys think of Dowd's performance?

How in the world did he get so many calls wrong? We had a blatant pen late in the game and he didn't fgive it....

I didn't think he was great, but by no means the worst refereeing performance I've seen. I did think it was a pen.

To balance it I thought the referee and linesman for Chelsea v Southampton yesterday were generally pretty good. When people were going down easily they wer told to just get up. It made the first half really flow and livened up the game no end.

it wasn't just the big calls he got wrong
there was so many minor ones he got wrong

like the advantage for WBA, that went on for a long time before he pulled it back for a foul by Shola
whereas the advantage (it was very minimal advantage as the ball was not under control) to Newcastle 2 minutes later was not
in the second half, a WBA player went down, Sissoko tapped the ball out near the oppositions dug out
and Dowd indicated a throw in to Newcastle
there was also several foul throws down the East stand side that was not picked up on, saying that the assistant was also very poor
just schoolboy errors, but not what you would expect from a premiership ref

What can you expect from a ref these days? They all think they're little gods that can do no wrong.

It wasn't a great refereeing performance, but in his defence it took the commentators three goes to see the shirt pull on Remy, and I think he knew he was about to blow up before West Brom could score with the penalty call. Not saying that makes it right but maybe he had in his head that West Brom have had some rough penalty calls recently and that it wouldn't change the result. It doesn't make it right - especially if we exceeded expectations and missed out on Europe by a single goal (not likely with our goal difference).

One thing I was very pleased to see though was Sissoko's shoulder charge not being blown up. I might be wrong but i think that's three in three games that have all been allowed and all led to goalscoring opportunities. It really annoys me when refs blow up for a good old fashioned shoulder charge. The rules haven't changed yet they constantly penalise them.

Phil Dowd will always get the benefit of the doubt with me after that Arsenal game :)

Got three big calls wrong for me (as well as lots of other little ones):

Free kick for Olsson's pull on Remy - not sure it was a red card as other defenders around
Should have issued Brunt with a second yellow for challenge on Cabaye about 2 mins before Brunt scored
Definite penalty in last couple of minutes

Fortunately, none of the above really mattered but easily could have - a mate of mine (Arsenal fan) helps out with a website looking at refs performances - Dowd has a negative score for Newcastle (decisions given against) and a positve one for West Brom - seemed very much like that to me on Saturday

I'm afraid I'm not very happy with the performances of the officials at some of our games. They seem to look at each other for confidence before giving or making decisions. How many times has it happened this season alone? The linesman flags for an offside, the ref lets play go on, the opposition score, the refs attention is then brought to the linesman having flagged, and then when consulted the linesman has a change of heart and agrees with the ref.

Not much point in having officials who wont officiate.

I watch junior footie every week ..and by god okay parents don't help ,,,,, but they just don't help themselves or just don't know the rules .. stop start ..stop start ..stop start .

all the time kills the game..they don't know how to play advantage .. it must stem from the top to cause they all the same .

one thing that really annoys me is the barge push the player out of the road 50 50 ..and have no eyes for the ball ..hate it and its a foul .

little off subject just had to git off me chest lol.

shoulder to shoulder not hands or body block..

I've got to say that I was pretty much 50-50 as to whether Olsonn should have got the card or Remy. Still can't figure out how the little backwards tug on the shirt made him fall forward like that, especially after Olsonn had let go.

Remy went down easy. I never understand that when shirt pulling is involved. Surely you are better off trying to run forward, thus making the pull more obvious? Undoubted foul but I think his dramatics made Dowd less likely to give it.

Having been at the millennium and witnessed Barnes' and Roland's performances there on Saturday, I can safely say that Dowd by comparison had an absolute stormer...
