An interesting interview with Phil Brown about Deano .... He get the whites of they're eyes in every interview, any way worth a listen http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16584329.stm
Yes it was a very good listen. Available for a week on the listen again function. Shame that nothing was said about the naughty step and all the players he pis sed off. My only real gripe about the interview was what he said about the Turner sale.
May i suggest you listen to it first and make your own mind up. All i will say for now is that i thought he danced very well around the subject.
I'm no major fan of Brown but appreciated what he did for city. I thought it was a good interview. He didn't dance around the fact that he didn't see Deano working out in the PL - but he wasn't harsh knowing Deano might be listening. He did 'legally' dance around the Turner issue, but now he's put it on record as to what he thought or believed was happening. Call it BS if you wish, but anyone who was involved in that transfer saga can have a right of reply. Brown might be a tad vain, but he is no fool. He was stitched up on that, and said as much as he could get a way with without getting himself on the end of writ for libel. It was an interesting interview, one that to be fair he gave willingly though didn't have to do it. A good listen...
Maybe one day radio humberside will do an interview with the man himself....Michael Turner and he can confirm what many of us already know.
Too many of us only remember the end of Brown's time with us and the negatives such as the rant at Man City, the Turner Sale, the Bullard Fiasco etc and we forget that this bloke actually delivered what no one else has - top flight football at the club. Looking back I'm sure Brown would have done certain things differently given his time over again, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and with it we can all make 100% correct judgements. Thought he came across as calm and measured in this interview.
I'd recommend listening on iplayer (http://t.co/bzm7PXnp) but if you can't, I've transcribed the interview here: http://tigerrick.50webs.com/PB.htm
At the risk of a being a pedant, it isn't slander on radio, it's libel. (odd fact but true) Good point Andrew M, I'm indeed aware of that, however, that only holds true as long as 'it is the truth' and just not a version which might suggest something quite naughty was going on. As I said, he gave his interpretation and was very, very careful -that was really my point. I noted he said he was still in touch or suggested at least that he had spoken to both Duffen and Bartlett (and I assume perhaps he's still friends or friendly with them). I think therein lies a tale...
Thanks for that, I obviously listened last night, but it's nice to read it back again. Much appreciated. Interesting listen/read though, few things I picked up on: 1. Sensible words about Deano, I particularly like that he had the class to not pile pressure onto the club to employ Deano. 2. He's still talking Duffen/Bartlett when one of them obviously lied to him about Turner. Strange one, my guess is he doesn't actually have any contact with Bartlett but didn't want to implicate him. 3. God I wish he was still here.
i was pleased he mentioned what ive always said, he was a football manger first and foremost, finances where other peoples departments.. is and and always will be a legend.
I have come to the conclusion that you are not a WUM. Neither are you a deluded attention seeker nor a Leeds fan. All these have been suggested a plenty in the past. You are just plain old mental. I must admit I find your posts amusing which makes me feel a bit guilty and slighty uneasy with myself.
A fair assessment, and I'm pleased I can bring some enjoyment into your's and others' lives. Though I also feel uneasy as I rarely joke.
Definitely right on points 1 and 2. 3 I'm not so sure, but I do know I'd rather have gone down from the Premier League with Browny having the chance to keep us up than go down as we did with Dowie. If we'd gone down anyway then fine, go your separate ways and have done with it.
TWF's posts have never bothered me. His views, however extreme are always the minority view and it doesn't bother me that one person holds a view. If everyone on the board was anti-AP I'd feel the need to disagree, but as it's only one person and we all treat it as a bit of a joke now anyway, it doesn't bother me.
Brown has being discussed enough times, but his interview manner was and always will be top notch. However there is no doubting his sacking. To say he would of kept us up is idiocy, his record that season would of seen us go down. His record against teams around us was even worse. I love the man for what he did for us, his transfer where inept, his tactics absurd, team selections clueless. He got us to the PL and did amazing til January, then something went wrong, he stopped being a football manager and starting being an ego.
