Chief executive fires QPR transfer warning Jan 12 2012 By Paul Warburton ANY QPR fan hoping for a flurry of new faces over the next few days can think again. Despite the appointment of new boss Mark Hughes ready to sign cheques worth up to £20million this week, chief executive Phil Beard has warned he does not expect to do business for another week or so. âWeâre only in the second week of January, and itâs a notoriously slow time for transfers,â he said. âAll clubs are working to bring new players in, and itâs a slow process. âWe know from experience it gets busy right at the end, and even with Mark on board I donât think itâs going to be any different.â Rangers have targeted Chris Samba at Blackburn, Wayne Bridge at Manchester City and Alex from neighbours Chelsea to bolster their back line. But Beard and co remember the last two days of the August transfer window where they signed four players right at the death, with the CEO racing up the Loftus Road stairs hotly pursued by Anton Ferdinand to make sure the defenderâs transfer reached the FA by the 11pm deadline. http://www.ealinggazette.co.uk/sport/qpr-ealing/2012/01/12/chief-executive-fires-qpr-transfer-warning-64767-30108700/? Surely just a ploy to bamboozle Spurs in the race for Samba?
I think it was obvious that this week we wouldn't be rushing in and getting 5 players. Most i can see coming in this week is 1 loan with maybe 1-2 within 10days. We really need a midfielder but i cannot see who we could get at the moment so i reckon a defender loan before Sunday.
what a pleasant man he talks sense & comes across so well, deals with the media very well, just think & we had paladini there's no comparision the man is top draw for rangers. i reckon as well maybe one in for sunday & just let authoria settle down a bit & then start with signings.
Bummer. Two days ago club officials were excited about the transfer window because we have a whole month to buy....now we're saying it's the same as last time? What's changed? Our targets maybe?
It tells me that the players we're trying to bring to the club first and foremost are not that easy to get out of their respective clubs, i.e. good players
The timing is awful if things will go as beard says. We have few massive matches before february and IF we lose to Wigan it will blow the confidence of our team below zero! Then again you can save few millions if you wait till the end of the month.....Then again......ok i give up
If we do get Alex and Onuoha do we need Samba? Whatever millions he would cost could be spent better elsewhere IMHO.
Of course, Hughes might just want to have a proper look at the players he's got before deciding who HE wants. He does seem to be going along (for the moment) with approaches already made, but who knows what surprises he might have in store. There are always surprises!
Errrrrrrr........ I thought we had SCORING problems? We held our own enough to keep the scores low enough! We just couldn't get in there and score! I see nothing different happening. Why are we trying to bring these almost-has beens? Bridge is done, he's finished. Alex needs to leave England, coming to us won't make anything happen for him, he won't be happy with us. I see nothing different to what NW may have wanted in bringing in the likes of Yakubu (if the rumours were true in that story). Why did we need Hughes if these are the immediate choices on his list? Absolutely confounds me. It's obvious that Bothroyd's not good enough. DJ may need to get back to 100% from his injury before he can be judged. We know Heidar can score, he needs more support from the likes of Mackie (is Mackie good enough?). We need a couple of really strong attacking midfielders to replace Faurlin and sometime fill in for the lackadaisical Adel. Who are they kiddin'? There's a whole PLANET full of players around the world, and these are the ones we're looking at? There are some players from all over the planet who would kill for a chance just to play in the Prem. Why do they insist on thinking that we need to get get Prem-experienced players? That's a load of bull. Plenty of players who came into the Prem for the first time from abroad or wherever have done well in the first year! I don't think Hughes has a clue, nor Fernandes. We don't need already-Prem-experienced players. We just need anybody strong. Go look at South America, go look at Asia. Deeper into Europe.
