Been a great servant, but increasingly making more and more mistakes. It is a case of him being past his best or a symptom of the lack of confidence in the whole team ? The goal he conceded against Swansea last night was a howler. But it wasn't his fault alone. He was put under pressure by our own defence, and his mistake was the culmination of a really poor passage of play. That said, this isn't the only time that Cech has looked shaky between the sticks. Is it time to drop him in favour of Ospina ? For me Ospina is very solid in goal, but lacks the height to really dominate on set pieces etc. Our other option is Macey who looks really decent, but we can't throw him into the first team just yet. The final option of course is to go out an by another GK, but whom ?
I used to play in goal, horrible position to play. The rest of the team can make miss passes, get muscled of the ball and have poor touches but a gk messes up Once and poor GK gets huge grief..
Yep one mistake which it's usually catastrophic, and everybody sees it. Outfield players can get away with more as the spotlight isn't on them so much and their mistakes (generally) don't cost goals.
I still think Cech is probably the 4th or 5th best keeper in the league, you could only reasonably argue for De Gea, Lloris, Courtois and maybe Pickford as being better.
I don't think he's been bad this Season. Still making some quality saves, distribution is normally good too. Think he's got a couple of Seasons left.
He is just losing athleticism. It happens to all of us with age, and in the cold and wet and poor footing, it was more likely to happen last night. As I said in another post, I still prefer him to Ospina. But we need to review our goalkeeping options this summer.
Why not? We won't get top 4. Let's play younger players and see if they fly. I would play maitlans niles instead of xhaka. Try macey instead of cech. We have secured our future attack (which is the hardest part to recruit). Let's expiremwnt for next year!
Just wanted to show some appreciation for Cech's actions in regards to Ryan Mason's head injury. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/ryan...ech-for-head-injury/19ep2x9rd7b71utik80hjp8xg Classy.
That Oblak guy does look ****ing class. Would be a great replacement for Cech. Its funny over the last few years we have had.. Almunia. Ok keeper- good enough to get games for Spain Szezney - Been fantastic in Italy now considered the heir to Buffon at Juve. Peter Cech. League and Champions League winner for Chelsea. Most clean sheets in EPL history. Nothing but Solid. But.. Jens Lehmann was WAY better than any of the above. He never got any praise from the British press, he was mad as a box of frogs but with hindsight its clear to see the guy was ****ing phenomenal.
Jens wasn't a patch on Cech at his Peak. Far better than schezzer and almunia though and one of the better keepers in the leg
He was better. Dont forget Jens usurped Oliver Khan (one of the greatest ever) as Germany's Number 1. Lehmann was a presence at the back. He had size, charisma and bossed the back line. He was also one of those rare keepers who just had days where you knew he wasnt going to be beaten.
Cech has the size over lehmann and the presence. Lehmann has it on the nuttiness. Also who didn't usurp Kahn until Kahn was 37 and on the way out of the German team (he only took over in 2006). I don't think this one is even a contest fella. You could rattle on about Pires or Henry or Sol and i'd have to agree. Not this one though buddy
Na - If you saw Lehmann in the tunnel. He was intimidating. Cech is uber chilled and nice he couldnt frighten a kitten. I would genuinely take Lehmann over Cech. He was a crazy genius.
I'd agree with this. I would have a prime Cech in the Invincibles but Lehmann in our current team. Lehmann is a proper character and it's characters that our current team lack. I would make him captain and let anyone on the pitch have it if they underperformed. Cech was the better keeper but his chilled personality suits a team with strong characters.
Come on, lets not get silly now. Jens Lehmann was a decent keeper, Cech, at his peak, might have been the best keeper in the world (or at least second to Buffon). The only keepers in the PL era you could could argue were better than Peak ability Cech were Schmeichel, Neuer, Buffon and De Gea, for me.
