Both of these are very very tasty. I find the Peter's one much drier, whereas the Pukka one has a lot more gravy. Pushed I would go for the Peter's one. What do my friends on here prefer?
I love a Balti pie at an away game. £3.20 at Donny last week. Just make sure you have a Ben Ghazi nearby...
Straight answer - Peter's. (regarding Royston's Balti pie experience) I'm not a fan of exotic/spicy fillings in pies. Everything has its place, and that includes curry. Curry pies, curry pizza, curry sandwiches, curry crisps, curry baked beans...not for me
Peters for me. For the best pies though, you really need to get the home made ones from your local butcher. A pie should be full of meat and not just gravy. Steak & Kidney or Chicken & Mushroom proper, proper pies. None of this Balti malarkey.
Too many local butchers (and fishmongers) have closed down, thanks to consumers choosing supermarket produce.
There used to be a butchers in Bromley called Kennedys. I could not pass without buying their sausage rolls, always a queue when I was there.
Yep, there was one at the top in Market Square & one at the bottom of the High St. Now all you have is the ubiquitous Greggs - strictly the preserve of visitors from Lewisham.
Can’t knock a Greggs sausage roll! Deptford is stil full of butchers. Hornimans do market on Saturdays with a pie man, which I can recommend.
Billings in Sydenham make the best sausages in the world. No gristle, just pure lean meat, and many different recipes. The butcher who makes them originally ran a shop with his brother in Perry Hill called Boston's, which was one of 3 local butchers I had who all closed down. I still stock up there when I can. Linda McCartney veggie sausages are also very good.
It’s amazing how far people would travel for Billings. Not as much as people travel for a Manzes, but it’s known north of the river too. For snaggers I get mine sent from Scotland, a place called Donald Russell. Like the sausages you describe, just pure meat and no gristle. Makes a huge difference.
