Peterborough United v Swansea City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - London Road Date - 16 March 2022 Kick off - 7:45pm Following their disappointing 1-0 defeat at Blackpool - in a game in which the Swans yet again dominated possession but were found wanting when it came to using it beneficially - next up is a trip to relegation threatened Peterborough. Last Saturday, Blackpool's impressive home form continued as a 1-0 victory over the Swans boosted their slim Championship play-off hopes. Gary Madine's early header proved decisive as Blackpool held on for a third successive win. Russell Martin's team dominated possession for long periods at Bloomfield Road but rarely looked like finding an equaliser. In fact, Blackpool ought to have won by a wider margin, with Josh Bowler going close, but a second successive clean sheet ensured they claimed all three points. The Seasiders climb to 12th, six points short of sixth-placed Luton Town, with 10 league games to play. The Swans, who have been dogged by inconsistency all season, stay 16th after a second straight defeat. Jonson Clarke-Harris' injury-time penalty claimed a dramatic point as the Championship's bottom side Peterborough twice came from behind to share the spoils with Stoke. It had looked as though Lewis Baker's 84th-minute spot-kick would be enough to earn the Potters a first win in six league games. Jacob Brown scored the opener shortly before the half-hour mark with a clinical finish past Posh goalkeeper Jack Bonham. But the hosts were only behind for five minutes as Clarke-Harris struck his first goal in eleven games to equalise. Despite avoiding their 24th loss of the season, Peterborough remain at the foot of the Championship, six points from safety. The Swans have played Peterborough on 46 previous occasions, with each team winning 16 games and 14 draws. In fact, one of those draws (1-1) was on 7 May 1966 was my first ever Swans match and it was refereed by Jack Taylor, who 7 days later was in charge of the Everton v Sheffield Wednesday FA Cup Final. When the teams met earlier this season, the Swans ran out comfortable 3-0 winners Turning to Wednesday evening, I think that the Swans will bounce back from the 2 consecutive defeats and return to South Wales with all 3 points courtesy of a 2-1 win.
God knows what will happen. If we play keep ball then it’s a loss, play attacking football and we win. So I’m going for a god awful draw with us getting a lucky equaliser.
Thanks Taff...need a win so let’s attack quickly from the off score three early goals and then relax...
Thanks Taff. If we score first then I see a comfortable 2-0 win for the Swans. If they get an early goal then we face a repeat of us trying to breakdown a team with numbers behind the ball who are happy for us to play possession football in front of them.
Just a thought but Peterborough haven’t won since November and we usually end those sort of records for the other team....but with the positive head on attack from the off score early goals to kill the game off and enjoy...
