Sunderland visit Peterborough United in the SkyBet League One. Last time out Sunderland beat Oxford and Peterborough won at Fleetwood. The Black Cats take on promotion rivals Peterborough United on Easter Monday live on Sky Sports. Sunderland could have Denver Hume back in the squad after he warmed up on Good Friday despite not being named in the squad. Jordan Jones had an excellent comeback game and played for 75 minutes, creating the equalising goal for Lynden Gooch and hitting the crossbar in the second half. Carl Winchester and Aiden O’Brien could return to the starting 11 after sitting out the Oxford game on the bench. Peterborough United will be looking for more points to maintain their quest for an automatic promotion place. Posh are two points ahead of Sunderland but the Black Cat’s have a game in-hand. Lee Johnson: “First and foremost a great win. I thought we were excellent for about 65 minutes of the game but had a dopey 25 in the middle of the first half” "Also you have to be fair to Oxford. They are a good side, they’ve got 3 or 4 quality players, Brandon Barker caused us problems but we sorted it out” “It was a great time for the goal, an important time, and I think it enabled us to come in and be settled in terms of the second half performance, and the second half performance was very good” “It turned into a scrap, it turned into a scrap at half time and it turned into a scrap at the end of the game, the lads want to act as classy as possible and at the end we won the game.” “Tough game, big game (at Peterborough) and it’s one where we just settle and go again. I suppose them having a man sent off helped us to save our legs a little bit” Darren Ferguson: "I told the players to look ahead to the first day of next season when crowds will hopefully be back and asked them if they wanted to play in front of 30,000 at Derby or 2,500 at Rochdale” “It is a big win for us, the goal came late and that can often be the best time to score as there is no time for the opponent to come back at us.” “I fancied Jonno (Clarke-Harris) when the free-kick was given. It was a great strike and it is another clean sheet and they are going to be so important, they really are.” “It is another win away from home. It was a much needed win and I thought it was a game that we started both halves really well in.” “I named the same side because we were so good in the win against Accrington. I knew I had good options from the bench to change it if we needed to.” “When we made the changes, Jack Taylor was outstanding, while Siriki (Dembele) gives you that unpredictability going the other way and he got into a couple of really good positions." ”We can now look forward to a big game on Monday against Sunderland, live on TV at home. It is just a shame that there won’t be any fans to see it in the stadium.” "That game won’t define our season as there will still be a lot of points to play for.” Match Appointments: Referee: CRAIG HICKS Assistant Referees: Aaron Farmer and Andrew Hendley Fourth Official: David Rock Team Line ups Sunderland: Burge; Sanderson, O’Nien, McLaughlin; Hume, Power, Winchester, Gooch; Jones, McGeady, Wyke. Peterborough United: (4-2-3-1) Pym, Butler, Beevers, Kent, Thompson, Reed, Brown, Burrows, Szmodics, Ward, Clarke-Harris Subs: Dembele, Hamilton, Taylor, Mason, Kanu, Gyollai, Eisa. Injured: Edwards Betting Odds: Sunderland 17/10 Peterborough 8/5 Draw 21/10 My two pence: A great second half performance on Good Friday means that we keep the pressure on the leaders Hull & Posh who both won. We are grinding out results at the right time of the season and I think we will continue on Monday. I'm expecting a few changes to the starting line-up but we shall see. Posh were lucky to get a late winner at Fleetwood and their away form has been poor of late. I’m going for a 2-1 away win. This game is Live on Sky Sports Football (Coverage starts at 14:45) Ha’way the Lads
HA'WWWWAY THE LADS MACKEMS ATTACKEM Not a prediction, more a hope. We win next 3, draw with Blackpool, win last five. There may be one loss in there. Hopefully Blackpool rather than a draw and a loss That's my mystic meg bit done. Coooooommmmmmon
Great thread as usual @RTB knowing my luck, we'll stuff these live on Sky since I'm on nightshift on Monday and can't celebrate!
Mine was loosely based on, we won 3, drew 1, won 4, drew one. We're 2 wins into 5 now, draw one. Win 6 (but only 5 left)
Great thread again RTB. “ That game won’t define our season as there will still be a lot of points to play for.” He sounds worried with statements like that if you ask me. Gone for a draw, but no reason why we can’t go out and beat these.
Yep they keep coming and this is probably the biggest one yet live on sky if we win we are in the top 2 for the first time. I’m backing us to rise to the challenge again. We have big time players in our squad the likes of Jones and mcgeady will be really up for putting on a show a draw wouldn’t be a problem but really think we will keep the winning run going I’ll go 2-1. Wyke gets back to scoring ways and a screamer from Jones
Clarke-Harris is in fine form. I really hope O’Nien can deal with him, I have no doubts that Sanderson can.
Actually feel confident having onein in defence he almost plays like an old fashioned sweeper he’s quick and spots danger. Made a fantastic headed clearance near the end yesterday. Think the pairing of Sanderson and Onien works really well
RTB They are 2nd in the league for a reason... However if we beat them we are 2nd... I expect a tough nail biting game. Their pitch is repudiately crap, so it might have to be two big ones up front, putting in lots of crosses.. Not pretty but effective!
