Evening all Charlton: Henderson; Wilson, Fox, Morrison, Ben Haim; Gudmundsson, Jackson, Buyens, Wiggins; Harriott, Vetokele Subs: Pope, Cousins, Church, Tucudean, Pigott, Bikey, Munns, Gomez, Nego
Very good move from Charlton. Gudmundsson crosses, Vetokele knocks it down, but Harriott scuffs a shot over.
Gudmundsson curls an effort towards the top corner, and is only denied by a fine save from Alnwick, tipping it over the bar.
McCann plays a long ball through the defence to Vassell, who dinks it over Henderson, but he can't get it on target.
First half really was all Charlton but apart from one Gudmundsson bender only routine saves for Alnwick to make. We have had a LM problem for many years, except when Jackson was fully fit in our promotion season. Some of us thought Evina could solve that problem. Maybe with Evina at LB and Wiggins at LM because Wiggins is better going forward than defending.but Evina wasn't good enough. (I see he has just signed for Doncaster and wish him all the best there). Now Bob is trying the same thing with Fox and Wiggins. I don't think he really has a clear idea of his best team yet. On the OS, Cousins said he would be "trying to get back in the team". I didn't pay much attention to those exact words at the time but it does now look as Bob will be relying on a Buyens/Jackson central midfield, at least to start the season. Cousins would be one of my first names on the teamsheet. It is not that he is marvellous, just that he can be expected to go on improving whereas Buyens has reached his plateau and Jackson is just an injury waiting to happen. I thought having signed Moussa and Gudmonsson our LM problems were over. Seems not. I thought we would lose this one 0-2 but Peterboro didn't turn up first half.
Huge chance missed by Vetokele. Cousins puts the cross in, but from the edge of the 6-yard box he can only put it wide under no pressure.
