In my opinion - this is showing real intent. If we can get this guy, Varney, Paterson, Halford plus a few more which I am sure SC and DL are keeping secret - we will have a really strong first team! I am very very glad that CSI are giving SC a bit of money to play with - knowing that each of these transfers still have to fall within our CVA and all have to be sanctioned by the Football League, I am confident going into next season! Lets hope we get all these targets - but the fact we are making shows that SC knows exactly what we want from the team! It's certainly good for morale to see us linked with decent Championship quality players. If we can get these players to sign on the dotted line [and have everything ratified by the football league] then I will be more confident than I was this time last year
I said only yesterday we need more quality or even players in midfield! This would be a quality signing and a statement of real intent!
Altho nothing has actually happened yet, this is definitely cause for at least some optimism, simply because of the fact we are aiming for these sorts of players is starting to show the ambitions of the new owners and SC.

I’ve always thought that he was a decent quality under-rated player; we should avoid comparing him with his father. Peter had the luxury of an apprenticeship with Villa his dad we can remember seeing improve season after season until he reached the required level.
Perhaps we could swop Ben Haim & Mokoeana for Whittingham ! The last player called Whittingham we had on our books as a player, did well for us, didn't he ?
45 goals in one season wasn't it? Remember seeing him in Sainsburys at Farlington when he was at his best - was mobbed! lol
i remember when he signed for cardiff, people said he was one of the highest paid players in the championship. there was also issues with his wage demands when forest went in for him last summer. its well known fact.
oh and brum wanted him just before the transfer window closed last summer and they couldnt afford him either!
Ahhh, ok, I was unaware of previous dealings with him - although we would only be able to sign him if his wages fell within our CVA and it is sanctioned by the FL - slightly odd tha this "rumour" has gone so far though - even on the BBC website now!
I have to agree with Jen here...(this counts as one of those 'THINGS YOU NEVER THOUGHT WOULD HAPPEN') He has led one or two clubs- Forest among them, on a merry dance and nothing happened, so don't get too excited about this one

Sounds to me, like there is another club trying to sign him, and his agent is putting the bite on them, by linking him to us. The only odd thing is, why did he choose Pompey?
