Looks like Fulham have put in a strong bid for Cardiff's Whittingham. I've always thought he'd be a quality addition to us. I think Laudrup & Larssen will get the right sort of prestige signings at striker and midfield but Whittingham is a player on the doorstep and I'm surprised we haven't tried to sign him.
Nah. You watch him in the big games, he always bottles it. We should set our aims a lot higher than that.
Fulham have made a bid, Whittingham's a class player . Granted, the proposed Laudrup signings look high calibre. We shouldn't miss out on the jewels in the Championship though. Wolves, Bristol City , Palace ,Blackburn and Middlesbrough might hold a jewel or two
whits is the only redbird player they have got of any worth and if he really wants to play in the premiership then he needs to take the chance if given as he will wait for ever with the malaysians.....
I agree that Whittingham is probably one of their better players but I've got my doubts about him making the step up. As campioni says, whenever I see them play I expect him to perform because he certainly has ability but always seems to choke when the spotlight is on him. Bit like the team he plays for. I wouldn't be over the moon with signing him because I'm really unsure about his consistency. In amongst the good seasons where he's scored for fun he's had some pretty ordinary ones too.
KJ, i agree with you. it's no surprise that he hasnt moved in years gone by. Whilst he has been classed as one of their better players, I havent seen PL clubs lining up for him. Good player and probabaly at the level that will show him at his best. He has said he is not interested in moving (sure i read it somewhere). Me thinks this is a lack of ambition on his behalf. Happy to stay at a championship side and standing out rather than test himself. Then again he may prove me wrong.
Very loyal to the Bluebirds , I respect that but don't understand it . I think Whittingham 's talent could bring him to the next level , see 's the game well
Loyalty or scared to make the step up. Remember that he has failed once before in the PL. Yes he was younger. But happy not having to test himself to the max every week.
First of all, I think Whitts could do an outstanding job for you, and as recognised by his peers from from other clubs, he is one of the best ball players in the division. As far as him staying with the club is concerned, his given reason is that he continues to be impressed by the ambition here. You'll make your own mind up as to how much truth there is in that of course - I actually believe him. Whitts is quite a stand alone type of character in the modern game and is probably one of the most self affacing people I've ever heard talk. I don't think he's scared of anything but struggles with the attention and compliments he continually recieves. Cracker, yes, there is a huge amount of loyalty from him and he is fully appreciative of the chance we gave him when his career was in doubt. If he decided to leave, his reputation as a loyal man would remain intact as he is a well respected human being. My gut feeling is that he isn't going anywhere and that Fulhams offer is far too low anyway
Clingo sorry to disagree with you. Yes he performs well regularly in the Championship and (i must admit) what little i have seen of him he looks a tidy player, but there is a vast difference between the two leagues. If we were to sign him, I for one doubt he would be a regular starter. Always happy to be proved wrong. But the one thing i have to say is that he remains at ccfc due to their ambition. Sorry, but what ambition is that to remain in the championship, I still feel whilst he is probably a loyal person and fair play to him if that is the reason, i just cant get it out of my head that he is scared about the step up, having already faied once. Clingo, can i ask one question of you. What bids, Officially have been made for him in the last 4 or 5 years. (not just rumours but official bids). Would be interesting to know.
Not for me. Definitely gifted technically but i genuinely dont believe he has what it takes to take it to the premiership. I could be wrong here but from what i understand he has a severe lack of pace, is not the strongest of players, is weak in the air and doesnt stick a foot in where others would. Premiership teams would do well to carry him for 80 mins to see 10 minutes of brilliance. But of course this is just my opinion.
Sorry but very overated IMO, has a great shot on him but never seen him once work his bollocks off for the team, seems to quite happy playing at a level where he can get away with doing things like that, would hate him at the Swans. Seen him play a couple of times when i was invited to lego land to watch some games, doesnt likr to graft and doesnt likr to put his foot in, think Josh Mc down here last season and thats what witts is like, good player but not prem league, more to the point doesnt want to work to become premier league, happy picking up nice wages and kicking back
