I just literally heard this minute something was happening regards Varney/Ebbsfleet in connection with you guys.

I thought Ebbsfleet had denied it, so was just coming here for the story, when i saw this thread?

PV and his chums have been the front-runners to buy Charlton since the summer. They were priced out six months ago, but Roly is now asking for a lot less.

    TFM was right all along.

Embarrassing thread on CL about Varney. Grown men, FFS.

Remind me who was CEO when Charlton’s decline started ?

So, no Varney consortium then. And I was so hoping to get TFM out of retirement:emoticon-0107-sweat. Whoever is negotiating with Roland is taking the NDA's seriously.

Grown men on CL talking about masturbating & getting erections at the thought of Varney returning.

And we wonder why fans from clubs take the piss out of our nerdish fanbase.

If Varney returning is part of a takeover package that sees Duchatelet finally gone, that would be OK with me.
We will not be in a position to know the true motives of any new owner.
Unless I could see evidence that Varney would do more harm to CAFC than Katrien Meire did, I would not have a problem with him.

With denials and all kinds of speculation flying around, it's only a sideshow at the moment anyway.

I can only speak as I found with Varney. Back in 2006 I spoke directly with him at the Valley on a match day, (after the Wycombe defeat), and expressed some scepticism that Les Reed was indeed a Premier League Manager. Varney was having none of it, and told me that not only was Les the right man for the job, he would be backed with substantial funds. Literally 48 hours after that conversation, Reed was sacked.

I agree that such comments are embarrassing, though surely they are being posted as some kind of running joke?
But such silliness should not be associated with our entire fan base.

Over the past year or two some of the more bizarre anti-RD posts have been as cringeworthy as the more slavish apologist nonsense.
However these people don't represent the vast majority of Charlton fans who are decent, tolerant and sensible folk.

As for other fans laughing at us... Duchatelet has made our Club into a laughing stock, which angers me much more than mickey-taking of our fans.
I don't mind being laughed at as a fan as long as Charlton are competing and improving themselves, and doing things the right way.

Granted, that was a bad mistake.
One of many made that season :headbang:
Les Reed's programme notes would have won a prize for fantasy fiction.

Not saying I believe any specific rumour......but.....if Varney led a consortium in the summer which was priced out, but can now afford to buy as RD has dropped his price! So they may have a war chest of around 20m to spend. Sorry, but that will get us nowhere. The sale price seems very high according to rumour, but the real expenses lie ahead. What possible reason is there to buy Charlton if they have so little money? It's not a cash cow. That bid sounds speculative if not unrealistic.

I can't see any justification for the club being valued higher now than when Roland bought it. The sale seems set to drag on interminably until Roland caves in, which may not be until the thought of subsidising another season's losses gives him a few nightmares.

Is it possible that Varney is part of a consortium but not necessarily its leader? Perhaps in with another party who has the money?
We just don't have enough to even guess with any confidence at what is going on.

Varney’s Vicar on Earth , Everitt, has stated that it’s a personal problem.

No doubt we will get the exclusive for £2 in the next issue of VOTV.

Wasn’t it claimed a while back that Murray was refusing to speak to Varney? No idea of the source and whether it was reliable info, but do seem to remember it being said.
