With so many people still wanting to see Alan Pardew sacked as Newcastle United Manager, I wondered how many would be interested in giving Peter Beardsley the opportunity?

He seems to be doing a good job and you only have to look at Swansea City and their appointment of Garry Monk to see that promoting from within really can work.

    Pedro anyone?

I could see his enthusiasm rubbing of onto players. Whether he's got the tactical nous to go with it is another matter. Rather him be there than pardew tbh.

His record at reserve level is clearly not anything to write home about but I'd happily give him a go to be honest. I don't hate Pardew the way many do, but I have said since the end of last season its time for a change. Even if he turned it around this season, the hatred for him will not go away so you are just pissing in the wind, waiting for the next slump in form before it all starts again. the club is crying out for a fresh start.

Woahhhh... Monk was not wanted by the majority of Swansea fans for a start, and now they mostly just say he's doing a decent job, rather than being anything to write home about. He's also very inexperienced in several areas, like press-handling for one (see Stoke comments) and he's got very little tactical ability. See our game, see the Stoke game. So let's not use Monk as a template. He's also only been in the job less than a year, and is rapidly approaching the shelf-life of these "promoted from within, temporary bosses turned permanent" types. See Ricky Sbragia etc etc The only time it's ever worked to any notable degree, would involve mentioning a certain Chris Sexbomb Hughton.

Given Peter has been responsible for youth development, and looking after the reserves, I'd say he's only done an average job, probably at best.

Beardsley hates Shola (his exact words were 'lazy bastard').... this will permanently rule out a return....
This therefore will appeal to BRS.

Sigh. Great clip that and easily the best player that I have ever seen.

Fans are never listened to anyway, we know that ourselves so it seems a null and void point to raise really. He is doing a much better job than I thought he would and is much better equipped than that muppet Tim Sherwod ever will be. Of course Monk is inexperienced <doh> having never done the job before, it kind of restricts his knowledge.

Tactical ability is something that you can only learn once you are comfortable with the players you want to use. Successful tactics at one club (see Mourinho at Inter then trying the same at Madrid) rarely work at another with completely different personnel. Norwich City (having sacked Hughton) look like they have a decent man in-charge now. They were really unlucky to lose at Fulham having totally out-played the Londoners.

Being inexperienced does not mean you are incapable of doing a job.

It simply means that all you need is the opportunity <ok>

...And what exactly has Peter done that's made you think he's just missing the opportunity?

Promotion through the ranks following the sacking of a manager traditionally does not work long-term, so basically you're saying you want Peter to get sacked from the club and disappear into the wilderness, because that's statistically far more likely than anything else.

If a manager takes over from this position, I'd imagine most fan's minimum requirement would be a manager who has been successful elsewhere and earned the position.

It would be a disasterous appointment and would end in tears. Love him as a player but has turned into a horrible yes man. I don't blame him as Ashley is his boss but his constant arse kissing of the regime has become very stale. Not even his dislike of Shola (never heard this one but is most likely accurate) could encourage me to think him being manager wouldn't be anything else than an unmitigated abortion.

His next job should be the chief ringer in the bell tower in Notre Dame as his forefathers once held.

Don't know about the Yes Man tag - - I've always known him to be willing to call a spade a ****ing shovel. I remember one Q & A session in the posh seats early in our promotion season when he was asked whether he thought Steve Harper (at that time riding the crest of a very sizeable wave of popularity) was an international quality keeper. He said he didn't think he was a premiership quality keeper and moved on to the next question.

Not one to mince his words.

As for appointing him, I think it would just end with a toon legend turning into the latest person to have " out!" chants levelled at them.

It would only end in tears.
But if you buy into the Ashley 'No Ambition' syndrome, it will probably be the ideal scenario.

You could give the job to anyone and he would fail ffs the owner has to want it and give the manager the ingredients

Would be a complete disaster in my opinion.

A knowledge of the club inside and out won't mean jackshit when he has to sit down at a desk and design a plan to defeat (mostly) far superior sides. Pardew can't do it, and I see no evidence at all to suggest that Peter could do it either. He's always been meh with the reserves.

Is there anyone our fans think could turn this rabble into top half contenders?

I'm not convinced our players are that good. I think plenty could do better than Pards, but I'm just keen to know what fans expectations are under this regime.
