I've seen him about 6 times, and every show has been fantastic, he's a great musician and showman. He may have his issues away from the stage that are well publicised, but is it any different than Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, The Beatles (late 60s) or Rolling Stones - just that the media is much more in your face these days.
Very true. There do seem to be double standards applied - even with his former friends Kate Moss (no one seems to care about the drugs in the fashion industry) and Amy Winehouse (considered a troubled soul). From the 60s to the present, it seems that everyone is happy to vilify musicians they don't like and embrace those they like irrespective of addictions - how many Stones and Led Zep fans on here for example? Creative man although there's only a few of his songs that I really like. Good on him for showing his love of his team at a moment like that - obviously a very passionate supporter.
Not sure I agree with you, Stones were completely vilified by press and large sections of the Society during their heavy drugs era. Their style of Bluesy rock was, as a result cast as the devil's music, by the elder generation. When touring in the states, they were searched and hounded by the police, and arrested many times. Weren't the Beatles arrested in Japan (or was it just Paul ?? - not sure) ?? Caught in possession - there was a huge outrage at the time.

I'm 53 and I've known about him and his music for 15 or so years. It's ****ing good, but not for all tastes, and puritans disapprove of his lifestyle.
Exactly the point I was trying to make, both Jagger and McCartney are now Knights of the Realm regardless of how they behaved in their youth and how they were treated by the press. But, as it's a new era and the media are looking for a new villain they appear to brand everything that Pete Doherty does with the tainted brush of an ex-junkie, and those who haven't even listened to one of his songs jump on the same bandwagon - in this day of X-Factor wannabes, people should appreciate musicians who have more talent in their little toe than these glorified karaoke singers, even if their character is flawed.
I spoke to the kid who threw the flag up there on the bus back. There was also a brief 'Oh Bobby Zamora!' from behind me at one point. Great gig, sweaty as ****, but a lot of fun.
