Seeing DS here again reminds me of his extreme pessimism back on the BBC 606 site. I started out thoroughly enjoying his posts on the original site, I really did laugh out loud at his euphanisms and he seemed to see things almost exactly how I saw them, I stuck up for him when everyone else slated him...and then the posts got too extreme and self promoting and it all got out of hand. These days I see how his posts wind others up and I kind of hoped he'd tone it down a little on here...maybe not then!
Anyway the point I'm trying to make is that I guess I'm a bit of a pessimist myself where Argyle are concerned but at the other end of the scale sits the sensible one - see, hear and speak no evil (just moan a lot ;)) so, come on then how do you guys see yourselves - pessimist or optimist and which do you think it's best to be? I think it's better to think the worst and you are prepared for it and you never know you just might be pleasantly surprised. :)

I always think the worse! But on this one with the current situation i agree with Sensible, sit tight and wait and see, Some good has got to turn up soon, surely. We must not build our hopes up, lets just wait.
See how even i changed, i would always be on Ds side until he got to obsessed with doom.

I'm deeply hurt Reid-all-about-it with the constant charge of moaning a lot. You should "mod"erate your tone a tad. I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic in equal measure. What I won't do is fret about something I have no power to change or influence. In life things happen and are either good or bad. Fate is more to blame than anything else with how many things turn out to be good or vice versa. Mostly people do not have influence over which way it will go. Luck or fate is the deciding factor. You have choices to make many times whether to do something or not or choose to do something completely different when opportunities arise. You have to pick one and that send you off down a path with other choices on the way. Sometimes it proves to be a good path and other times it doesn't. Same applies to Argyle. The Board had choices and made decisions. A run of fate or bad luck dictated in the end it was not the path to choose. Had they done something else then we may have been promoted and not relegated. One thing for sure is though, you cannot go back and re-choose, you are stuck with the one you have picked. Remember Forrest Gump. "Life is like a box of chocolates............"

    ZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZzzzzzzzzzz above post.

My opinion is that this mess at Home Park is far from over and probably going to be a very unhappy ending for the few on here. (Sorry)

If this debarcle had anychance of being a happy ending then a buyer would be in situ now and Plymouth would be in the market for few players.

    Good Luck

    Deep Sensible, very deep!

I like to think I am a realist. Nothing seems to surprise me when it comes to Argyle!

Isn't being a slight pessimist a trait of the typical janner? Saying that, considering the past few years we've had to endure it's hardly surprising.

There's always this year though.. Bit of optimism for you there Reid-All-About-It ;)

Been an Argyle supporter for 50 years Reid-all-about-it. Do you think I got where I am today by bloody smiling? Actually, the mood on this board has lightened somewhat in the past few days. Then DS turns up and somebody wanted to talk football. We haven't had much to smile about for a couple of years now you would think they would give us a break wouldn't you. Talk football on a football forum indeed. They will be wanting the team to actually play football next.

I couldn't really say I was either at the moment. I really feel that I don't have enough information to form an opinion. There is so much speculation that you can end up going in circles and chasing your tail - in my case, not a pretty sight! I guess I'm very much in the 'wait and see' camp although I can slip into a trough of doom and gloom from time to time.

Optimism is for those that don't want to face the realities of life.............I know that sounds a very sad thing to say and in general it obviously isn't true.

Pessimism is often the real world we live in day to day, if things go wrong we tend not to be disappointed because we expected that to happen.

Regarding Argyle, in the last three years I have felt very pessimistic about what has been happening, The result has been..............far worse than I could ever imagined..............does anyone know the word that means double pessimism...........that says that it's worse than the scrapings from the bottom of the cesspit.........other than toadyism.......but lets not talk about ex-directors like that.

I am definately a pessimist (did I hear someone say, naugh your not are you). I survive those times by going into sarcasm mode (OK I know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit)............but at times I feel I'm damn good at it by the response it at times receives.........and the main thing is I feel a lot better afterwards and of course quite optimistic for the future.............but then I wake up and realize that we're dealing with PAFC here ,and the cesspit cloud rolls overhead again'

I'm concerned about the buy-out process. Whilst I do understand why it's taking so long - 12 hour plus working days every day are the norm when you're involved in one of these, my personal record is a 20 hour day from 6am until 2am the following day - it's a complicated operation and anything could go wrong.

So pessimism, no, I've seen nothing unusual so far but concerm, yes, it could collapse at any time.

If we can get beyond that, then I'm quietly optimistic on the football front. I'm not expecting promotion but I think Sir Peter will put together a competitive outfit which will at least provide a platform for improvement over the coming few years. Hopefully the fans will get behind the new regime once we're out of the mire and although there may not be huge numbers in attendance, a better atmosphere will make a lot of difference.

I'm massively optimistic that my prediction of being in the conference this time next year will be 100% accurate!!

Seriously though, it's time to start the squeaky bums because time is running out to D-Day and we don't even have an owner yet, let alone a team, a plan or an aim. Once again we are going to be light years behind our competitors just like this time last year when the club left it until a week before the season kicked off to appoint a new manager.

DS, I think it wil all be sorted out by the start of the season, the squad must be due back for training next week? I disagree with you on the conference issue, i think top 6 next season at least.

DS makes a good point though. Even if the exclusivity doesn't need to be extended beyond the end of June and the deal completes shortly afterwards, I imagine there will then be a further delay before the Football League go through the process of lifting the embargo.

That probably puts us into mid July before players can be signed, at best.

Sir Peter may have a list of players he wanted which was presumably drawn up in recognition of what can be afforded but how many will be left by then?

Even if they can be signed, with the first league games on 6 August, there won't be much time to bed players in in a pre season schedule.

Still, que sera, sera, the main thing is to get the deal done and be in action on 6 August!
