A wrist slitting minority on this board (and some of the people leaving when the 3rd goal went in may I add) seem to have very short memories when it comes to supporting Saints so I thought it would be fun to post the points tally after 3 games plus our final league position for each year we were in the premiership:

    92-93 - 2 18
    93-94 - 0 18
    94-95 - 2 10
    95-96 - 1 17
    96-97 - 1 16
    97-98 - 0 12
    98-99 - 0 17
    99-00 - 6 15
    00-01 - 2 10
    01-02 - 0 11
    02-03 - 2 8
    03-04 - 3 12
    04-05 - 3 20

Apart from relegation and 99 we never won a game in the opening 3 games. That’s just how it was supporting Saints, but we always seemed to survive (well, almost) so I have absolutely every confidence we will survive this season, in fact there is no reason why we can’t finish mid table (there, I’ve said it). Think about how well run we are now compared to some of those years?:

1 We are now a well run, self sustaining club with a brilliant manager and owners who are driven by a vision for this club, set in motion by ML (RIP).

2 NA is on a learning curve and he doesn’t strike me as the person not to be able to learn and adapt fast, far from it. He will be hurting more than any of us today that’s for sure and he will be making damn sure he learns from any mistakes he feels he has made.

3 We have a great team that is learning each and every time they set foot on a pitch this season. So many positives from yesterday. Yes there were mistakes made, but until you make a mistake you don’t learn from them. This is the toughest league in the world and we are more than holding our own –points on the board would have been great, but it hasn’t happened, let’s move on (and I refer to the points tallies above to emphasise this)

4 We have a state of the art training ground with some fantastic youth players coming through the ranks

5 We’ve just signed one of the most exciting young players in world football!!!!

I can proudly say I’ve been a Saints fan for many a year and have followed them through thick and thin through the lower leagues – this is the best I have ever had it and I for one am not getting off the bus. It’s going to be a great journey for all of us so can all the doom-mongers, wrist-slitters and suicidal maniacs do us all a favour and get off at the next stop please?

I for one will be at the Emirates cheering the team on regardless of result and loving every minute of it. Nearly two years to the day I was watching us draw 0-0 with Colchester at home FFS

Like I say in the title...it’s all about perspective
