I really think we need to make sure he gets game time. I think he could do well for us. He doesn't flap when he gets a chance. Natural finisher.

Pardew will try and convert him into a winger and ruin him

AYOZE Perez has no regrets after turning down Real Madrid and Barcelona to join Newcastle United.

Perez scored the club’s winner in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

It was his first goal for the club since his summer move from Tenerife.

And the 21-year-old – who was tracked by Real Madrid and Barcelona – is enjoying his new life on Tyneside.

“Everything is going well – I cannot ask for more,” said Perez.

Perez only found out he was playing two hours before the Premier League game when Papiss Demba Cisse was ruled out through injury.

It was also Perez’s first start for the club, which climbed out of the relegation zone after the victory.

Perez – who could lead the line against Manchester City in tomorrow night’s Capital One Cup tie at Eastlands – was signed after a prolific season in Spain’s second division.

A number of top European teams had been tracking the forward, who scored 16 goals in 34 appearances last term.

But Perez agreed to join Newcastle after the club activated his £1.6m release clause.

Asked about the reported interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Porto, Perez said: “Yes, there was interest from those teams.

“The truth is that the Newcastle bid was quite surprising, because firstly there were other teams interested.”

Perez, a pacy and direct player, says United “pushed hard” to sign him – and that, as well as his love for English football, convinced him it was the right move.

Asked why he chose the club, Perez added: “They pushed very hard to get me. I feel they really valued me.

“We had to consider the different options, and I finally decided to come to Newcastle.

“I have always loved the Premier League, but the main reason to come here was how Newcastle valued myself.

“I felt very appreciated by the club, and that (was the reason) which made me opt to come here.”

Perez scored met a cross from second-half substitute Remy Cabella with his head to score against Tottenham.

And the Spain Under-21 international labelled the experience as “incredible”.

“It was incredible to score my first goal for Newcastle,” said Perez.

“I am very happy for the goal, but especially for the team’s victory.

“The manager (Alan Pardew) has congratulated me for it.”

Looks a good buy for the outlay. Pardew deserves a lot of credit for showing a bit of faith in him early doors. I think he'll do alright. He has plenty to learn but he has real enthusiasm and quick feet. I think some one on coaching from Beardo would do him the world of good.

I remember when we loaned Rossi from Manu. He was on loan, seemed a bit lightweight but at the time you could tell he was going to be a good player. I wish we had signed him back then.

I think game time will provide him with the confidence he may need. A bit of strength work is needed as he needs to beef up a bit but the quality is there. He took his header very well.

I thought Ferrarya was on the bench who is more experienced? I think Armstrong was on the bench also. I could be wrong. And of course he could have decided to "protect" him and switch Gouff to a forward role pointing towards Perez fragility and inexperience.

Now you are not just reluctant to give Al a bit of credit when its due surely? :D

What about them subs too eh, buyring the inability to change any game myth, the never being able to come from behind in a game myth (SPurs just never came out - in Diers case literally), never performing in the 2nd half myth (I'll have to give him this one as he had clearly got into them). Honestly the bloke is a maverick and a rule breaker. He loves quashing all these myths (he got lucky). He is at his best when the chips are down (he's not).

I am as confused as the next man to be honest, that performance and managerial bravey came out of nowhere. So I'll credit it him when its due, full in the knowledge we'll be back to normal now he is basking in his own glory.

Furry, as I'm going to call him, has been on a long injury lay-off, playing him would have been akin to starting Raylor... Perez was the only realm choice.

I'm very happy with Pard's performance though, defo 10/10 for the subs! Magnificent ressurrection <ok> Jesus would have been a #Pardewin-er
