A mate suggested this to me and I wasn't sure about it. His logic was that Perez will be too light weight for the championship so we should loan him out to a prem club, taking a fee and freeing up a squad place. IF we go back up them we have a more experienced player on our hands. IF we don't go up.. we have a potentially more experienced and higher value player to sell. Thoughts?
I think he would do well in the championship personally and this notion that you have to play cavemen is ridiculous. It's changed.
Championship is far less kick and rush and you have to be 6ft 4 and 15 stone to do well! Game's moved on in the last 5-10 years and smaller players can prosper in Champ just as much as they do in Prem.
Foristeiri (complete spelling fail) was top scorer for both Watford and Wednesday in last two seasons and he is lightweight! Routlege looked a worldie in the Championship and so on
It would be physically impossible for Perez to get kicked any more than he did in the Premier League. They have taken lumps out of him for the last couple of seasons. The truth is he would be far too quick for many of the talentless hackers in the Championship.
No I think he is a useful option for the championship. The easier level could be very good for him and Mitrovic. They struggled with the PL.
I'd keep him, get him use to the tactics Rafa wants to move forwards with. As others have said the Championship will be not much more physical than the EPL so he should be fine. Moussa and Gini though I would loan out. Benitez seems to want to keep Sissoko and I'll let that slide but Wijnaldum won't play Championship football - Loan him to Everton or someone so he gets some more EPL experience, if we come straight back up he will still have 2/3 years on his contract and will be all the better for another season in the premiership.
Perez can be like Lovenkrands when we were in the Champ last time, speedy and nippy and getting goals. Mitro can be Carroll. I think the toughness of the championship is overrated, we hardly had any injuries last time (apart from Saylor who's always crocked anyway), and Carroll was beating the crap out of the teams in the Champ, but always gets injured in the Prem now.
