Been scouring German sports media but can't find any mention of the messiah's announcement,. He definitely said he would be making a statement tonight after the Hanover game.
Just been announced, he's having apfelstrudel for dessert....with ice-cream. Please merge this with the WTF are you have for dinner thread
From BM website - Pep Guardiola (44) will not extend his contract with FC Bayern München. The German record champions’ new coach from 1 July 2016 will be Carlo Ancelotti. The 56-year-old Italian will receive a three-year contract expiring on 30 June 2019.
Largely because they don't seem skittish about publicly announcing (or letting a manager announce) changes midway through the season. Any PL club which allowed its manager to announce they were leaving at the end of the season (or announced their replacement) would be subject to endless media rumour and innuendo about the manager's position with every result and decision subject to extra scrutiny. Even interim managers get a fairly rough ride from the media - if City or Utd announced Pellegrini or LVG were being replaced with Guardiola at the end of the season then both clubs performances would fall imo. Although it's fair to say ours couldn't fall much further!
Barca has that structure as well. That's what United need to put in place. A solid sustainable plan that keeps the club a step ahead.
A plan, of any sort seems to be what is missing from the club. A plan for long-term management (LVG was only ever a 3 year man, so who had they in mind after that), a plan for transfers (looking at the players we have brought in, by and large none of them have been better than the players we have released) and a plan for academy players and youth development (our previous strength in depth allowed us to blood our youngsters by integrating them into League and FA Cup squads - knowing that we always had match winners ready on the bench as plan B). Woodward is clearly a masterful businessman and has worked tirelessly to turn us into the successful global brand that we are, but what we need is another tier in senior management, someone to have complete oversight of the football operation as distinct from the financial planning, sponsorships etc etc. Whether that role would ever fall to another manager, as it did with SAF, is another question. Perhaps the time has come for the club to let go of the old ways and to find a director of football who can remain a constant and steadying influence - even if we change managers.
The plan was tk try and emulate the Barcelona/Bayern model. We spoke to both clubs before hiring van Gaal specifically for this reason. Some managers are about more than the first team. The club identified this and the fact, like Bayern 6 years ago and Barcelona in the early 90, decided to go a different route to before. So the clubs plan was very solid and makes a lot of sense. Make us less reliant on any one manager and have a syetm in place for them to slotbin, have 3 or 4 years and move on. The set up and style remains largely the same. Basically, to get us to the point that a flmllete novice could take over and achieve success. Giggs was the aim. Unfortunately there's a demand for instant success, so this type of long term planning is dead. Ourselves, Barcelona and Bayern are the last of a dying breed. Its really sad tbh.
This is pure tripe fella. If you think ppl have become increasingly fed up of LVG bcos they want instant success you really have missed the point. And I really have no idea what the bit in bold means.
Clubs with a long term view. We appointed van Gaal for a reason. That reason has been forgotten. Bayern hired him for the same reason and Barcelona, twice, for it. None regretted it and with tell you that it was the best decision they ever made. Followed by letting him go. That's because he's more than a first team coach. The last 3 clubs to go down that route were United, Barcelona and Bayern. The German national team encorperated many elements in the early 00s and it has paid off. Long term planning with short term dips for the betterment of the club/team. Barcelona started with Cruyff, followed that with van Gaal and perfected it with Pep. Bayern stated with van Gaal and hired the right managers after. Woodward spoke to Rummigee regarding van Gaal and was given his honest opinion. Rummigee wasn't kind but truthful. We hired him shortly after because we had a vision. Some of us saw this vision, even through the ****e. Sone didn't. I can see why and it requires some faith. Both Bayern and Barcelona felt van Gaal was the wrong man, but his ideas were right. I hope we do similarly .
Sounds like Dallas. Was this the episode where Bobby and JR planned to make Ewing Oil the biggest in the world, but Cliff decided his daddy deserved a slice of the pie? I haven't the foggiest what the plan was, and you may well be right that in some cigar smoke filled room, it was decided the biggest clubs in the world would hire the mercurial services of the dutch quiff to build a new legacy much in the way Jock Ewing did. But the reality has proved quite different. I don't mind telling you, Van Gaal and his "ideas" are dull and unimaginative dross, and he can take them and stick them up his ar5e while taking a running jump
Outside bet, Poch? Tbh I don't know. I'm pretty confident the plan was van Gaal followed by Pep with Giggs somewhere down the line. We decided on how we wanted to go forward and started down that path. Were likely going to have to start again if van Gaal goes. Especially if Mourinho comes in, who likes older, tougher players.
Yep you got it UIR, the only one. That's why you're calling for his head now You're priceless you know that.
The plan is always the plan until situations beyond control force changes. Given the even to this season, I don't see Giggs as viable option. He is not and never been a natural leader. It would be a gamble and stupid emotional choice rather than carefully considered decision. We took a gamble with Moyes. I don't see that happening again. We have zero room left for failure especially if Pep goes to City. I believe if the board called Pep and asked him if he would consider United and got a "No" for an answer, they would most likely go with Jose in anticipation of Pep joining City. There is also Antonio Conte who is a fantastic manager. Yes, Jose comes with risks. But given our precarious situation right now, it is a risk worth taking.
Loads got it. Absolutely loads. Again, more than the 12 fans on here. And I'm calling for his head? Lol. Nice try. Making ****e up like stan eh?
