What piece of music transports you to your earliest memory of a Saints game?

For me it has to be T Rex and Ride a White Swan which seemed to be played at every opportunity during my first match attended at the Dell when Saints played Arsenal.

Another recording a little later was “I just Called to Say I Love You” by Stevie Wonder which we used to joke had been played so many times at games that it only had one side left.

If I hear either of these recordings I am back on the terracing at the Dell.

Remember they are not our rivals for we have ambition while they have none.

    Hi Beddy,

I remember the Albion marching band who were the half time entertainment at the dell back in the days when all the "tasty" lads were at the back of the Milton Road end! Glory days!

The piece of music which always take me back to a football match is Doris Day singing "que sera sera" ;-)

I loved them. Especially the guy who chain smoked ***s while playing the trumpet and the big guy with the umbrella. I thought they encapsulated the laid back New Orleans style Jazz and you could just imagine them being exactly the same at a funeral. I didn't like that smarmy guy who used to walk around saluting in a Union Jack outfit and was more often seen at England matches. I even used to like the military bands we had from time to time.

I don't know whether I am just too cynical these days but there was a sense of real excitement at the Dell which I miss.

I think it was because we were full of expectations. In those days it did not seem to matter who we played, what league we were in, what cup competition. We always expected a result. You would could not rely on the form book or clubs standing. This went on year after year after year. We got used to it. Unfortunately then come the Lowe years, by name and by nature, although you cannot put the full blame on him. He can take some credit it is true........but a darn site more criticism.
The events of the last two seasons (post take over) remind me of those early days, just remember we won the FA cup while in the league equivelent of the championship. So the world is our oyster so to speak. Are those heady days here again? Who knows, what a time we are in for if they are? To some of you youngsters out there, you think the excitement of the last season was good? Trust me if we get back to the Saints of old that is small fry........ask some of the other oldies. You will have your disappointments too but they will be forgotten by the exciting bits trust me......
ODB..............How are you buddy.........Have to admit to enjoying throwing the coins at the targets, (mainly foreign ones I will admit) as I couldn't afford the real thing. Wolf whistling the blonde lass that used to play the cornet. I went over to the players entrance corner just to be close to her so I could call out to her. Then one day she blew me a kiss....oh heaven. Did I ever get my leg pulled. You had to give it to those guys and gals they did their best to play no matter the weather. Funny you remembering one of Doris day's songs, mine was the Deadwood stage by the same artist. Mind you only because of a previous incident at the cross roads near the dell it was being played in the bar of the pub on the corner. Happy happy days..........
