Does anyone know how many pens we´ve had this season ? Total scored & missed at home & the same for away. It must be alot for 2/3 of a season.
Opps! made a mistake within the title & found out how to edit it, by chance, that´s why it´s posted 3 times. Sorry.
We have had 14 Nugent has scored 9 out of 12 Konchesky scored 1 Wood scored 1 All Nugents misses are at home. He hit the bar against Forest and the keeper saved it against Bolton and Middlesbrough
Nugent isn't a particularly good penalty taker in my opinion. He only really scores if the keeper makes a mess of it or he sends the keeper the wrong way. I think someone like James would be able to hit the corners, giving the keeper no chance.
Nugent waits for the keeper to commit and then he just sticks it the other way Given like Lonergan just stood up to Nugent and Nuge made a mess of the peno and it was an easy save Gally just welled the ball as hard as he relied on the ball beating the keeper rather then trying to outfox the keeper I much prefer Gally's way or hitting the ball as hard as you can
Im not too critical of Nugent though. He has a 75% conversion rate. And thats a damn sight higher then Man U's 20% conversion rate from mid week

Wycombe- Penalty Birmingham- Bartley plays the ball Carlisle- Stonewall Penalty Wigan- Stonewall Penalty Blackburn- Penalty Blackpool- Penalty Barnsley- Penalty Yeovil- Penalty Forest- Soft no peno for me Burnley- Looks very soft until on the 2nd angle Ben Mee clearly smashes into Vardy Reading- Very soft, I thought Knockaert was looking for it Bolton- Stonewall Penalty Derby-Stonewall Penalty Middlesbrough- Stonewall Penalty So for me 5 was clear penalties all day long, 6 was penalties but the other team would have a case to argue and 3 of them was just bad decisions
Barring Forest, Nugent has scored them when they seem to really matter. I'm not worried about his scoring percentage. I suppose you could say the same for the Bolton game too I guess.
Nugent has played every game in a team 8 points clear at the top so he has more then played his part so I'm not going to get on his back. He set up Vardy aswell yesterday
He's lucky that two of his penalty misses haven't cost us. I'm certain that Forest wouldn't have come away with a win had he scored that penalty though. He has a really poor penalty technique. He's never been a natural finisher so I've never really been pleased with the fact he takes them. Hopefully if Wood, GTF or Phillips are on the pitch then they take them from now on.
I'd rather have someone who hits the target all the time than someone who puts it wide trying to aim for the corner.
One of Nugent's penalties did just that. Look at both Wood's and Konchesky's penalties. Even if the keeper knew where they were going they're still unsaveable. Hard and low into the corner. Not tapped to one side at easy save height. I'm sorry, he's just not a good penalty taker.
I hated it when Palace got a stupid amount of pens last year, but then you understand that its the pace of Zaha that was helping to win them, we have Vardy gaining a yard on defenders this season
When Nugent missed against Bolton Lloyd Dyer scored exactly 2 minutes later. When Nugent missed on Saturday. Ritchie De Laet scored exactly 2 minutes later Great response from the lads after something that clearly gives the opposition a lift. Last seasons failures have really helped the lads build the character needed to respond to set backs whether it's in the game or after a defeat. Losing Liam Moore was an early blow but Wasilewski stepped up and played well.
Never realised how many of those penalties were won by Vardy - and am impressed by how none of those were dives.
Watch them again and realise they're almost always the same. Vardy's usually running away from the goal but some pea-brained defender just panics and hacks him down anyway. Both our recent ones are the same- Derby and Middlesbrough.
