http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-Pennant-after-contract-deadline-expires.html Pennant is leaving the Britannia Stadium as a free agent as Stoke prepare a substantial revamp of their squad for next season. The former Arsenal and Liverpool winger was due another 12 months on his deal if he passed a certain number of appearances by the end of January but the clause expired to effectively end his three-year stay in the Potteries. Pennant could go out on loan to a Championship club before the emergency deadline on March 24 and is not expected to feature for Stoke again this season. The 30 year-old was signed from Real Zaragoza for £1.725 million in January 2011 after a successful loan spell and impressed in his first 18 months, but has not appeared for Stoke since the Capital One Cup defeat to Swindon in August. In the summer he was prevented from joining Tony Pulis's squad on their pre-season tour of the United States due to a drink-driving offence earlier last year. Michael Owen is also set to leave at the end of the season, with any prospect of a new contract considered extremely remote. The former England international has only started one game since signing on a free transfer in August. Dean Whitehead's deal expires in the summer and he could also go while Rory Delap has confirmed he will leave after seven seasons. Michael Tonge, Danny Higginbotham and Diego Arismendi have already had their contracts ended early by mutual consent.
Jeeezuus - there's a surprise. A right wing newspaper reporting on our (soon to be ex) right winger!!
I will be sorry to see Pennant go. The best teams that Pulis has put out have included Pennant on the right and Matty on the left wing
Its a joke and real waste of talent! If the fall out was anything to do with hid DD ban and being unable to travel to the USA it just shows what a hypocrit TP is with all the **** he let Fuller get away with. It always seems to be the ones that make a difference on the pitch?
I can't be sure of course but a former manager of mine knows Pennant's family and he said there were some domestic incidents at Pennant's house over the summer. Don't know whether Pennant has been hitting his missus but that's what I got told.
Either way, his private life (however unethical or dubious) has nothing to do with his job. If true any alledged violence is at least done behind closed doors, unlike some of TP's players violence on the pitch and more relevant, the grand master himself - Naked Flying Headbutt in a place of work on a direct report?
Not only a waste of talent but a waste of money too. No wonder Coates will not bankroll Pulis anymore. Pulis out!
If Adam goes as well then that's two attack minded midfielders out the door, so we can play the likes of Whelan and Walters.
