Your life savings are on this penalty going in. You can choose one from the following 4 Saints penalty takers: David Peach Matt Le Tissier Rickie Lambert David McGoldrick (!) Who do you choose and why? I always admired Peachy. He scored some pressure kicks in his time. Les Tiss of course is legendary, but Rickie has now got it for me. It was the penalty against Cardiff that did it for me. Out for 3 games, we are 1-0 down and staring another home defeat in the face, Cardiff delay and argue. My nerves were shredded and then BANG. I'd choose McGoldrik if my life depended on it but I was feeling depressed and wanted out!
Out of interest does anyone know how many pens he has taken for us? As I don't seem to remember him missing one...
Similar to yesterday - the second one in particular. Being outplayed with Reading breathing down our necks (4-0 up at the time!), had already been given one penalty and law of averages says he has to miss eventually, the chance to grab a very late undeserved winner with the Millwall crowd screaming at him, standing holding the ball for ages as players surround the ref and after what seemed like weeks of arguing, puts the ball down and into the back of the net.
As soon as that 2nd penalty was given a lot of fans were cheering like it was a goal already. I have that natural little bit of nerves before a lambert pen, but when he does eventually miss i know I will be truly shocked.
