    StokieSmit mentioned that last night was the first time he had watched a penalty shoot-out live involving Stoke. Does anyone remember Stoke being involved in them before? They must have been and I am sure I have seen them but I can't remember specific occasions. I have not been a regular visitor since 1985 but I do seem to remember a shoot-out involving Man City at Stoke during the Summerbee/Doyle era, late 60s-early 70s. There may have been others I have seen but my memory fails me.

    I bet Stoke have never scored 7 out of 8 in any previous shoot-outs

    I remember one in 2001 against Oldham Athletic in the League Cup which we lost at the Britannia. I can't remember one since.

    Come to think of it Sgt, penalty shoot-outs are relatively recent of course so how could I have seen one involving Man City in late 60s. Must be having one of those senior moments!

    Didn't we lose one against Leicester in the mid 90s in the Autoglass or its equivalent?

    I can not remember one lads..
    To be fair I don't like them but I guess when your'e team comes out on top.. it feels fantastic.

    I do remember a while back that one comp was decided by the first team to score... after extra time. Sadly, I am not sure if it was World Cup or F.A. etc..
    Anyone who does let me know, as my memory isn't so good these days.

    It was the World Cup 1998 that the Golden Goal was brought in. I remember it as it was the first World Cup I remember. I think France scored the first one in that World Cup, against Croatia I think, think it was either Thuram or Blanc who scored it. If memory serves I think that World Cup was the competition where FIFA first brought in the rule about the tackle from behind being outlawed. Might be wrong.

    Sgt and Smit..
    I thought it may have been the world cup! 98 eh, Sgt no wonder I didn't remember the year!

    And Smit, thanks for finding those stats, funny how you can remember the games when you see them written down.
    The worst was Liverpool and the scoreboard failed to register for a while.. Will NEVER forget that and it was a night game too!

    <cheers>

    I remember the most recent ones now I think about them. In one of them, Brammer took one of the penalties. How times have changed!!

    Does anyone remember the 7 I think FA Cup replays with Bury in the early 60's I was an office junior in Stoke centre then The away games were played early afternoon because it was Winter and I was sent out to get a Sentinel to get the latest score because there was no such thing as radio coverage

    I was also sent out to get pie chips and peas from the Tiko Happy days Does anyone remember those lovely pies with superb gravy

    Great win Tuesday night and I have a feeling that we will at least hold M U to a draw on Saturday
