Sky Sports News just put up a stat saying he has run a greater distance than any other striker this season. Not sure if that's because he has played more games but that's tough going. I remember when Ruud Gullit first came to the UK, he said British strikers ran too much and they should only do their running near the penalty box.

I wonder if he needs to run less. Long ran his socks off the other night and it can be said he isn't the most composed in front of goal. Pelle too has lashed at some chances. Maybe they should be picking and choosing when to be running.

Pelle doesn't have the accuracy of Lambert...he needs a lot of chances. I'm glad he's working hard, but not necessarily a good sign in a striker...suggests he is having to do other people's jobs. I wonder if he was like this in Holland i.e. part of his normal game, or he has only started to run a lot here.

Suarez did a lot of running last season didn't he? Didn't seem to hurt his game. I vote he keeps doing what he's doing and it'll all come right again.

And running is Shane Long's game. That's how he frightens defenders, having a muscular ex-hurler bursting past them.

Maybe Pelle is actually trying too hard? Might seem silly but have heard it said before. Mind you as more or less a lone striker most of the time is it any wonder.?

I notice that Van Persie is just two below him in the list so he is in decent company.

I agree about Long, but speaking from experience, some strikers finishing can be effected by the amount of running they do. It is hard to be all hustle and bustle, then suddenly pause/slow right down to shoot.

I think it was Strachan, who said that "good players can make space, by sometimes standing still".

A perfect example of this was a goal Dennis Bergkamp scored, at the Dell. He was being marked by Lundekvam, and as the Arsenal attack moved up their right, our left, Claus took his eyes off of Bergkamp, watched the ball, and continued his movement back towards his own goal. Bergkamp just stopped and created 5 yards of space in which to receive the pass and score.

Two reasons I can think of. Pelle tends to drop right back into our half to be a target on throws ins. Not many teams have their striker doing that. Another reason is he likes to help us win the ball back. Some strikers aren't bothered about that at all. He even occasionally fills in wide when we lose the ball.

Definitely better than Lambert - chases defenders down and actually jumps for headers!

Ahh, I didn't start the thread to end up comparing to Lambert - love Rickie. Overall, you may just be right, but it's close. Lambert used the ball a lot better than Graziano.

Today Pelle was up against a very good centre back and despite being on the end of plenty of foul play, actually won most of the aerial challenges, they didn't all go the right way, but his hold up play was pretty good, he tends to over elaborate at times, and his flicks don't often find anyone on the same wavelength, I am sure there is a lot more to come from him.

We need Pelle scoring. I was afraid that he might have hit a prolonged drought, so good he is back on target again.

I watch him and often end up muttering, ****, he is GOOD. He gets back, he puts in a shift, he's a quick thinker and he scores. I like watching the guy.

He's a proper old fashioned powerful centre forward in the mould of Shearer

He needs a lot of improvement yet in his distribution. He is a handful for other teams though.

The stat is useless without putting 'Games Played' and the 'Avg per Game'

Pelle's goal drought ended against Manure, a couple of weeks ago. I think he sometimes shoots too soon. A good example yesterday was when he had possession, around 35 yards from the Everton goal. He had runners ahead of him taking the defenders away, giving him the space to advance, yet he still hit it early, before he was properly settled. He's a good player, but could be even better if he stopped and composed himself, before shooting from distance.

I recall the incident well. I think the best option was to slip it in for Betrand who had supported him to his left.
