Nigel Pearson delivers major hint over his potential future at Bristol City Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has revealed that he would be pleased to stay on with the Robins beyond the end of the season but suggested he will have to earn that right with results on the pitch. The Robins have managed to stabilise their poor run of form since Pearson took over from Dean Holden and he has managed to secure two impressive away wins against Swansea City and Birmingham City. Although those two victories have come either side of successive home defeats against Queens Park Rangers and Bournemouth. Pearson is a manager that is needing to find his next longer-term project having had a short spell with Watford last season in the Premier League and having now taken the job at Bristol City until the end of this term. He offers plenty of proven Championship pedigree and so it will be interesting to see what the Robins do at the end of the season and whether they offer him a long-term deal. Pearson suggested that talks between himself and the club would remain private, but he also revealed that he would be keen to stay on that club if he proves that he is worthy of that new deal by the results in the final ten games of the campaign. Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has revealed that he would be pleased to stay on with the Robins beyond the end of the season but suggested he will have to earn that right with results on the pitch. He said: “I’m really enjoying my time here. The discussions which we have are private. “I understand I have to earn the right as well to remain here but it’s a good club and I’m enjoying working here. “I would be very pleased to stay.” The verdict Pearson is not a manager who has revealed much to the media about his situation since he came into the club on a short-term basis until the end of the campaign. It is therefore a pretty big statement from him that he would be very enthusiastic about the prospect of remaining with the club beyond the end of the current campaign. It has not been an easy job to walk into given the number of injuries that the Robins have and the form they were in at the time he walked through the door. However, he has shown that he can get the best out of individual players who were struggling beforehand, with Kasey Palmer and Antoine Semenyo having massively improved their form in particular. Keeping Pearson would be a wise move you feel from Bristol City, and he has shown enough already to be strongly considered for next term. He is right that he will need to see a strong ending to the campaign to convince he is certainly the right man for the job. So far though there has been enough signs to suggest that he is. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/n...nt-over-his-potential-future-at-bristol-city/ Pearson demands ‘motivation’ and ‘desire’ Tuesday, March 16th 2021 Nigel Pearson has spoken about what he expects from his squad with 10 games of the Sky Bet Championship season remaining. The first of those sees the Robins head to Ewood Park for Wednesday night’s fixture with Blackburn Rovers (March 17th, 7.45pm KO), live on Robins TV. City sit 12th in the league, four points ahead of Rovers as the campaign nears its climax. Pearson told Robins TV: “I want to see players who are motivated to win games. If they share that personal motivation it sends a message about their desire to be at the club and play in a team which has healthy competition. “Those are the things we need to stress and it’s about trying to have that message from everyone at the club. It’s how we have a chance of developing, to set high standards and nudge those up all the time. Having a competitive instinct is very important.” Pearson added he relishes having a selection headache and with the likes of Callum O’Dowda, Liam Walsh and Marley Watkins all having returned from injury, with Nathan Baker and Tommy Rowe also eyeing minutes in the run-in, he certainly has just that. Walsh, O’Dowda and Watkins all came off the bench in Saturday’s win 3-0 win over Birmingham City, with O’Dowda scoring with just his second touch to get himself on the scoresheet for the first time this season. “I like to have selection problems through having players available, not selection problems because people are missing,” Pearson explained. “It’s healthy for us and all three of the subs who got on will benefit not only physically not psyhcologically for getting back into first team action. “There was a really good spirit about the game, we were efficient too and that’s important but now it’s about replicating all the good things.” City go again at Ewood Park after three consecutive away wins in the Championship but Pearson expects it to be a tough evening against a manager in Tony Mowbray who he knows well. “He is a man I like, he has a lot of integrity and his side will present quite a difficult obstacle for us. They’re in need of points so we’ll have to be ready for a tough battle but again it’s about looking at ourselves and if we put in a performance like we did at the weekend I’ll be happy - it will give us a good chance of winning,” he said. Blackburn Rovers versus City will be streamed live on Robins TV. The matchday show, which costs just £10, starts at 7.15pm. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/pearson-demands-motivation-and-desire/
For me, he's already shown what he and the team are capable of under his leadership Some tweaks here and there (improving the home form is a must for starters) and a few new faces in key positions in good time and ready for next season, and who knows where the journey might take us.
Will he stay or will he go big, we've got 10 games Mr Lansdown, don't let the creature Ashton get invoved.
Lee Johnson: Bristol City capable of going from Championship to Europe in five years Another broken dream.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36962717
Anyway, back to our current manager, and the purpose of this thread - I really hope Pearson stays and gets a full season to see what he can do. SL has always backed his managers with money, SC, LJ in particular, only really SoD and DH he didn't, and for different reasons that reflected where the club was at the time. I'm sure NP will get funds and with his contacts and reputation, I expect he will make some very astute signings. COYR!!
The main difficulty is that no real income this past year .. EFL not said how they will apply FFP and only way may be sell .. but that is like a merrygo round with prem clubs with cash able to "buy up" the odd lower league player to put cash for transfers in clubs finances down here! PS supcon need a forcast for WEDS you missed tonights!
