Assuming the peruzzi & mavrias deals are all but done, left back is a must! But what else must we have in place?

Paolo Di Canio: Still looking to bring in more signings

Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio admits he is still looking to add to his squad before the start of the new season.

Di Canio has been one of the busiest managers in the Premier League this summer, bringing in nine new faces and he has no plans to stop yet.

The Italian believes he needs to bring in a few more players if the side are to improve on last season's disappointing campaign.

Asked if he planned to make any more forays in the transfer market, Di Canio told reporters in Hong Kong ahead of next week's Barclays Asia Trophy.

"Of course," said Di Canio. "Obviously we know the board knows that we need something more. But I don't know if it's possible at the moment.

"We have already made some good signings and the club has made some sacrifices in some ways, they have spent some money.

"So I am happy, but obviously it would be better to bring in one or two other players, but we will see."

It seems a frustrating time at the moment. Those final pieces just don't seem to be coming together.

I still think there are players to come and go.

Once Peruzzi signs I will be happy. But am hoping that Insigne, Aly Cissoko, another LB & RB, and a box-to-box midfielder who can dictate from the middle will come in, someone like Huddlestone. I always would have loved to see Manu Fernandez in the red&white, thought he is a cracking player.

Think we could do with another cb, box to box mf and a forward. We need depth and I don't think your cuellar's, vaughan's and whickham can provide that depth. remembering 3 of the 9 signings are development/bench sitters a few more would be a help. Think we could be entering the balancing part of the window where we'll need to drop figures off the wage bill before bringing in too many more. One thing's for certain, outgoing players need replacing like for like. Can see Wickham back at sheff wed for the season.

And as it stands we still need 4 fullbacks.

Listening to PDC's interview it seems as if ES doesn't want to pump **** loads in again after what has happened recently. So I think we'll get a lb and a cm for starting positions and unless/until we sell anyone that'll be it.

That's what I think, at least. I've got a tendency to be wrong <laugh>

Only difference is that we've gotten Shambles, Killa, and will get rid of Bardo - who will be on huge amounts of cash from the Keano days. Bramble was on about 50k a week, Bardo is somewhere there probably, and Killa would be between 30k-40k. Thats gotta be about 140k a week off the bill, and the people we're bringing in are on nowhere near that kinda cash. I think Ellis will spend a bit more yet, and with the reduced wages we should be alright now we're shipping the deadwood out.

I still think we need what I said above (Aly, Insigne, LB, RB CM), so it's 5 at the least. We have a very thread bare squad as it is

    Maybe you're right!

But we will not be sigining Insigne.

Also our squad is pretty big right now

Agreed! I think the emphasis will be on moves out now, see how much the wages can be reduced by, to free up funds for some late opportunities near window closure.

Has anyone been keeping a list of out-goers? Not too many seem to have gone but I've been more distracted by new signings so I've probably missed a few.

Left back, Centre Mid and a loan striker then that will be us done this window.

I think any more and we could be taking the word overhaul to a whole new level, which could really backfire.

As long as we just tick along nicely this season we can then really add some big players in the next few windows, I'm sure we will be fine with just one LB & RB upto January at least, theres no way in hell we will sign 2 LB's and 2 RB's in the next few weeks as some people want, your living in footy manager land there (although it would be nice).

Remember this is the next ten years and more we are building here not just next season, the squad will never be perfect at the start of the season but we deal with it the best we can knowing that we are in good hands in the future.

Looking forward to seeing two or three more coming in to put the icing upon a very positive summer.

I have to say, as much as I quite enjoy a bit of transfer deadline day excitement, it is much better to get new signings in early. I can't believe that we are nearly content and still in July.

I think theres a couple of twists and potentially a couple of signings that could shock everyone.. its the year before the world cup in brazil and there are players out there sitting warming benches at top clubs who desperately want and need to be playing football week in week out to make their national sides. Its the perfect summer to be talking to theses players and im talking about players like inzagne. Players who would walk in and improve our first 11 immediately but are considered fringe players at there current clubs. And I still do believe there will be a marquee signing before the window closes.

Couple of million for Elmo aswell. Just wondering how much budget dicanio was given. Feels like we are trying to shift some on now before we buy again. Would this be the case if we had 20mil to spend plus sales.
