A section of our fans, the Board, the press and our unfit old guard all got their way - the aim seems to have been to prove that PDC had been far too demanding of the squad. I am not surprised that the old guard failed miserably! As is their way, they ran out of steam after 55 mins but I am sure they will be back up to strength for the clubs and casinos by the time they get back tonight! At least we will still be here when that shower is gone. As I believe PDC was quoted, owners, managers and players all move on one day but supporters are here for all time.
At least Gus now knows that these so called premiership experienced players in our squad are past their best, its time to mix and match with whatever he has left in the squad and try and get the season back on track, I'm afraid that is no easy task.
Should of stuck with PDC but his gone now. hopefully Gus starts picking other players now. if he doesn't then the fans will turn on him.
PDC was possibly, no definitely was the worst appointment in my 4 decades following the club and would have never improved us given 10 years and we have dodged the biggest of bullets in firing the mad bugger as quickly. Our current problem is our players are just not good enough. Poyet is a far, far better prospect than PDC (who will not get a top flight English team to manage in the next 10 years IMO) but he will have to find a new set of players next season after we go down.
Joint worst with Buxton, Wilko, Butcher and Sbragia. Lol Seriously though, that's the most amateurish and destructive summer of 'rebuilding ' I've ever seen and none of the above had the kind of resources available to PDC either. He was systematically destroying the club imo piece by piece and in time, would have totally ripped the heart and soul from the club. He was so out of his depth he was drowning in front of us and some lads were just tossing him lead weights asking for him to have more time. I like Poyet and think he could build something in time but its just a shame we didn't appoint him last season instead of the mad Italian
I Think he tried an extreme tack and it backfired on him. We're in the same mess now as we were before Paolo came, and didn't improve during his own time. Starting to think it's the impossible job while the old guard stamp their feet.
Continually using words like nutter, insane and mad do more to destroy your argument than reinforce it. You seem to have had a massive grudge from day one which seems to have started with the sacking of MON.
PDC was a ****ing nutter. We got a flavour of that after the West Brom game and the stories that emerged since his demise are horrific, he had to go.
Got to be honest Smug, I am at a loss as to how anyone thought this guy was a step forward for our club. As it is, we are the brown sticky stuff because of his actions. We had a relegation side when he came...he sold off some of our players and replaced with in some cases worse players and in other cases players he wasn't prepared to play (even tho he bought them). I honestly believe if he were left in charge we would have beaten Derby's 11 point record season. Without him (but because of his actions) I think we will struggle to get past our 19 point season. Time for Gus to hoy in the kids and prepare for next season....but I for one am pleased PDC has nothing to do with oour club, he has took us back years.
We've had decades of the club being used as a rest home for people on their way down, like O'Shea, and a 'gentleman's club' by the likes of Bardsley. Di Canio came in, recognised that immediately and decided on a course of action. Of course some of the players didn't like it. They didn't seem to like it much when we were beating Newcastle & Everton tbh. Unless we now stick with Poyet, and give him time, we'll end up with yet another manager who's content to trudge along and drag the club along behind him. Personally I've had enough of these 'merry go round managers' and welcomed someone who wouldn't be afraid of the players. I thought Di Canio was that man despite the fact that it would be a scary roller coaster at first. I believe some of the supporters are as entrenched in their 'comfort zone' of mediocrity and safety as some of the players. I can't see any ambition in any of the players tbh.
Exactly Not at all. PDC was a disaster. If Poyet had been installed when O'Neill was sacked I'd have been fine. Continually referring to my support of O'Neill to mask the fact you thought and still think PDC was a refreshing appointment destroys your opinion too. I was against PDC from day one precisely because I felt strongly he was totally wrong for the club. I think I was right. PDC, far from being progressive, has indeed ripped this club apart and created an atmosphere that has more than likely done for us this season. He was insane and a nutter and IMO will never be given the reigns of another EPL club in the next 10 years. I mean, what chairman or owner would want him near their club?
The club doesn't have any heart and hasn't for some time. The players wanted PDC out because they'd grown soft and lazy under MON and didn't like being dragged out of their pit. The atmosphere at the club is 'player power' and that's poison. Di Canio didn't create that.
I agree 100% with your sentiment and the fact our players have had an easy ride for way too long..I also agree we need a manager that can change this and bring in some proper work ethic..however Where I think PDC went wrong was his "my way or no way" attitude. I will ask you....If a manager came into your work place and started dictating on pretty much every aspect of your life..would you respect or recoil...I'm bloody sure I know what I would do. A balance has to be struck in ANY form of management, PDC simply didn't know how to strike that balance or man manage in way at all. I know a few think he might work again in thi country, but from what I hear, the word is out on his working methods..I would be staggered if any chairman would touch this any time soon. If has anything about him, he would acknowledge his faults and accept he cocked up here..But I doubt that will happen. As for Gus, I rate the guy, he come across as a much more considered person, someone who can kick arse or put an arm around a shoulder. I doubt he will make a difference this season, simply because of the squad we have, but I hope against hope he will be given time to do something next season
The 'stories' that came out were from the players, like at West Brom ...... well what a surprise. I can't imagine he's said anything to the players that me or you wouldn't have said after such a miserable display. Football isn't like working in an office ...... you need to have passion etc and need to be advised on diet, behaviour, fitness etc. All the top managers say that football players are like children who need special treatment, ours just started twisting and throwing their toys around the nursery. Now we're stuck with the likes of Bardsley, Gardner, Johnson, Cuellar, Seb & JOS, none of whom PDC brought in ....... they're a disgrace to the club.
He maybe didn't create it to start with but he certainly exacerbated it and played upon it with an incredible zeal and insanity. Nobody denies that our players need changing, kicked up the arse or jolting into life but you simply cannot enter an organization and try to totally change it inside a few weeks. It needed a man with a proper plan and the means to carry it out. Poyet would have been far better initially and with a full summer of his recruitment and team building, we wouldn't be in such a ****ty place right now IMO. The entirety of our predicament may not have been initiated by PDC but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he has been responsible for ripping us up as a club and scattering the pieces to the four corners of the globe. It's going to take a monumental effort from Gus to just keep project SAFC on the straight and narrow now, never mind from saving us from a new record low points tally. PDC was the worst of appointments IMO. Nothing will change that opinion.
