Sorry if it has been posted before: Re: http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/Person.asp?PersonID=DICANIOP Does this sound familiar? âdi Canio had his work cut out to assemble a squad for the new season - and a string of triallists from all over the world joined up with the Town for the pre-season preparations - men from Italy, Ghana, Namibia, Algeria, Austria, Estonia, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and the Netherlands were all courted, with twelve players signing before the season started. Six of the new men started the season's opening game with Crewe - and after di Canio had impressed with his detailed knowledge of the Railwaymen in his pre-match press conference, after a nervy start, the Town registered an eventually comfortable 3-0 victory. Over the next few weeks though, it looked like the pundits may have had it right, as Swindon lost their next four league games - including the first home defeat to local rivals Oxford for 38 years, when di Canio's attempt at mind games with U's striker James Constable backfired. After describing Constable as 'a big Swindon fan' and admitting that he would like the player in his own team, Constable scored twice for the U's in a 2-1 victory, kissing the U's badge in a match that saw di Canio sent to the stands.â Hereâs hoping our season pans out like the one enjoyed by Swindon Town! Interesting the pundits had it in for Paulo then as well! No retractions later though. KTF
So we lose to the Arse then we`re on the up and up. Gerrin. We`d better not beat them or the whole thing goes tits up. erm... Good comparison that mate, at least it shows how the pundits attitude hasn`t changed.
point is, new team bedding in - it takes time and effort. I like the balance of the squad now, maybe we have the players to play the way Paulo wants, but it will still take time. The article does say that he always tinkers with the teams though. i quite like a settled team, but that seems to be a thing of the past (except notably Ferguson's united!). In the end it is all about trying to get by without the obvious pull of the big glammer clubs - we have to settle for 'problem' talented players, injury prone talent, or players on the way up, otherwise they would be in the top six second eleven. We have tried established journeymen and that don't work - lets see if there's something here that will.
