Henderson for £20m seems too much to me; he is not in Meireles class. The only advantage is that he played in the premiership before.I was made to understand that if Liverpool had put in a bid for Andy Carroll at the begining of last season his value was around £3m, and Newcatsle are going to do business. Most of the players we are currently linked with are playing in EPL and possibly English. If Messi is English and currently playing in England, the price tag Liverpool cannot go near. The sad thing is that if Liverpool do not buy others would. My prayer is that the English players are going to gell at the begining of the season. Nevertheless, there is no doubt in my mind that we are paying more than necessary.
The people behind Liverpool are far from stupid. If we can afford to be extravagant then that's surely a good thing. Makes me laugh, people were moaning when we had no money and now people are moaning when we spend money?? Anyway, realistically what is 20mil in today's market..... **** all.
Meireles is 28 years old and in his prime, if Henderson were in Meireles' class at 20 we'd be buying one of the best midfielders in the world. When Meireles was Henderson's age he was out on loan playing 2nd teir football in portugal
I think the age and potential of Caroll and Henderson is what has pushed the price up. We will only be able to tell if we have been mugged in 5 years time. If both move on to their full potential then the money paid will be well worth it, if they don't then it will have been money wasted.
There's price, there's affordability and there's value. We got paid £15m to swap Torres the donkey for Carroll the prospect. We don't know how much of the £20m is taken off for Ngog. But Kenny would like to see you in his office to discuss your concerns about his transfer policy. Wear a helmet.
Why are you complaining. Last summer people were whinging that Liverpool were not spending money...now they are whinging that Liverpool are spending money. Are some people ever happy? Think about Gareth Barry £12 million.James Milner £26 million. It was Man United that started the increase on English players when they paid £30 million for Rio Ferdinand. Was he at the time better than Sami Hyypia that cost Liverpool £2.6 million.Okay he cost Leeds £18 million, but a £12 million jump when he won absolutely nothing at Leeds. He also scored the odd o.g. tonce against Liverpool(His boyhood heroes) in fact. I back Kenny,as he's not usually wrong. In his 6 seasons as Liverpool manager last time, from 1985-1991,He made 3 dud signings.Jimmy Carter,David Speedie and Glenn Hysen. Now thats not bad.Even Bob Paisley made one or two more than that in his 9 years. Some idiots claim Kenny is a ''chequebook'' manager.Thats also nonsense,If Kenny was a chequebook manager, the likes of Jay Spearing,Jack Robinson and John Flanagan and Martin Kelly would not get a sniff of the first team.Neither would Jonjo Shelvey.
Realistically you have hardly spent a penny. You got rid of a player who didnt want to be with you, and picks up a fair few injuries in Torres, and a flop in Babel and brought in a strong talented forward in Carroll with years in him, and one of the most exciting players around in Suarez who has done more in his half season then Babel did in his full time there, and pretty much broke even. Now you are in the process of selling a 26yr old CM with history of injuries who never settled in England for around £16m (after paying only £12m), and Ngog who hasnt done much, and isnt Liverpool quality, and replacing them with a versitile 20yr old, who is an established premiership player. The sale of Aquilani and Ngog again means you break even again. So who would you rather have: Torres, Babel, Ngog, Aquilani or Carroll, Suarez and Henderson?
Yeah, just another average 20 year old with 2 season of PL experience and a senior England cap. You've just had a go at him in another thread. Your club hasn't signed him, so I don't see why it bothers you so much.
"Also known" only by you. Then again, when it comes to unrealised potential who knows more about it than Arsenal?
CityCityHull. Excellent comment mate. Now thats the positive atitude we're looking for on this forum. As I said on another thread,I 100% back Kenny's judgement,as in his 6 years as Liverpool boss the last time,he only made 3 dud signings.Glenn Hysen,David Speedie and Jimmy Carter.Ferguson made 8 or 9 in a similar period from 1986-1991.
No it isn't, most players do not cost that much. Look at Mereiles, Nasri, Hernandez, etc, they were all cheaper Look how many Sunderland fans who thought he didn't have a great season if you don't believe me.
all of those players are forgein. Liverpool want an english base to their team and english players come at a premiem. For ever Hernandez, Meireles & Nasri there is a Bebe, Veron & Cheyrou
Plus, both Carroll and Henderson had 5 YEARS left on their contracts. Their clubs were under no pressure at all to cash in.
Only time will tell if there astute buys(hendo, carroll),but trust in kennys judgement iam happy with the signing of henderson
We all know that English players are overpriced. So that would have added something to the overall cost. We've also brought these players because of potential. They can become excellent Premier League players in the years to come. Like somebody else has already said, if in 5 years time, they are excellent Premier League players then it would have been worth it.
Look how many Sunderland fans who are saying he's a GREAT player with a fantastic future and did have a good season. This works both ways mate.
