I don't think the transfer would have been completed if he wasn't granted a work permit. I think he is available for the City game.
Not sure what Jol meant then when he said "Pavel will hopefully come in the next one or two weeks" - last para in this article http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/fulham-fc/2012/02/01/jol-fulham-had-to-let-zamora-go-64767-30249843/ Certainly doesn't sound as though he'll even be in the squad on Saturday.
I read that Pavel hasn't yet got his work permit and is not even in the Country so sounds a few weeks away from starting. I'm taking the trip up to Man City this weekend and am not confident at all. After they lost to Everton on Wednesday I think we could we in for a hard game, to say the least.
I never bet for or against Fulham but this one really does seem like the definition of a home banker. City will be chomping at the bit after the defeat to Everton and with us having no strikers I can see us being lucky to get nil.
Your right Bandit. If it wasn't for the fact I have got my match and train ticket I would be praying for snow - which might just happen !
we need a lot of money to get a good goal scorer and there is never a gimme. look at torres and andy from the toon
Had Jol (or our scouts) actually ever seen Pavel ? It seems not and Jol took it on trust from his mates Hddink and Advocaat. Also in this article is the interesting take from Jol, "We have to get them when they are playing badly or we wouldn't get them." http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/12/02/05/SOCCER_Fulham_Pogrebnyak.html Even if he recovers from his chest complaint, there seems little chance of Pavel even being in the frame for the Stoke game.
We have to get them when they're playing badly? Maybe at clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid but this guy came from Stuttgart! A note to Jol - Bad players play badly, good players play well. Is there an actual chance that he won't play for us at all if he doesn't get his visa? Meaning we will have spent £3 million to sign a player who can't even leave his country?
I'd just like to say again that Fulham could have had Papa Cisse last summer for less (10M) than we paid for Bryan Ruiz - and Cisse was brilliant in his debut for Newcastle today. Taking Ruiz over Cisse was a stupid choice. Blind man could have seen that from a mile away. I'm not saying Ruiz is a bad player or that I've lost patience with him - I think he'll eventually be good for us; but Cisse was a can't-miss prospect that we somehow missed out on. Cisse will have 10 goals or more by the end of THIS season.
I think he has a point. A decent striker/forward (e.g. Bent) costs around £15m. No way a team like us can afford him. I think DR has a point regarding Papa Cisse but on paper the team had Zamora and AJ in the summer. BZ didn't want to adjust, AJ has other issues. Thus we are left with Pavel and Sa!
I don't think he's naive Val. Just refreshingly honest with no bull sh*t! It doesn't excuse the fact he didn't take my advice and play Frei and Trotta on Saurday! COYW
Whilst I think that the general concensus is that he is not the marquee signing we all dreamt of, we have to give the guy a chnce. he has 30 caps for Russia and has scored 8 goals in the process. It may be worth remembering he is on the fringes of the national team at the moment and that he may have a point to prove in order to get himself in for the Euros.
