Breaking news on Sky Sports news suggest that he is having a medical with us. Wikipedia tells me he is 28, 6'2'', Russian. Anybody know anything else about him? Doesn't get me too excited.
According to the BBC - Pogrebnyak has scored eight goals in 30 international games but has been troubled by knee problems in the past. He is a Uefa Cup winner, having enjoyed success with Dick Advocaat's Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
Does anyone know if he's a back-to-goal type, or an on-the-shoulder runner? If he's the same style as Zamora, surely he'll have the same problem fitting Jol's system. I'm trying to be optimistic and to give the feller a chance, but I'm a little concerned.
Strange how the Official website says Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Russian International Pavel Pogrebnyak who will initially join the Club until the summer. Most of what I've seen of him was with Zenit St.Petersburg, a few years ago, when he was at his best. Reminded me of a Podolski type of player. With Russia being in the Euro's this summer, lets hope he's out to prove himself to get in their squad.
He's a bit of a lump to be honest, a true target man to replace Zamora. He's pretty slow and mainly hangs around the six yard box. Scores a lot of headers.
