Hear now the wise words of Paulo... "Paul Benson is a great example, he is a perfect soldier. He arrived here already in good shape even though he had not played many games since May. Older players have to be like he is. Paul has the desire and he lives for playing football. The secret is internal motivation. When I played football it was all I wanted to do so I looked after myself. Paul has the internal motivation. He does everything we ask him to do with the maximum effort. Obviously here he has found a good place to integrate himself straight away. He knew Alan McCormack so there was a base here already that helped him to settle straight away. His body helps him as well because he is not to go fat very easily, so his genetics are very good. In my opinion, if he keeps going like this he can have another three years at the top level. He could be a protagonist in a side fighting to win League One next year and then again the following year. We look after him here with the way our training is done â work, recovery, work, recovery. If he keeps his internal motivation then I am sure he will be a main player in League One. I donât see many more top strikers than him in League One because there are ones who score 10 goals in 10 games and then go quiet for some games after that. He is the kind of player who can keep scoring regularly. He is intelligent, a natural scorer in the box and I am sure that he will be an important player at a better level than this for three or four years." Interesting view.
I quite liked Benson and thought he had a raw deal here, but that is a bit over the top. Maybe good kiddology from his manager though. Hmm ... I wonder if he had anyone particular in mind?
Agreed, it is certainly a bit over the top... Although, I've said it time and time again: Benno's not much of a footballer but he is an out an out goalscorer, and everyone needs at least one of those in their squad. Imo he never got a fair crack under Powell. However, Powell is the gaffer and the man with his head on the block. It is therefore his decision to make. I wish him and Swidon well though...
... Sorry Super...!! I've always rated Benno as a pure goal getter and I didn't want to see him go. However, I must confess that when we swaped him for Clarke I thought we'd got the best of the deal out of the two clubs. After all, Clarke is considerably younger and was banging the goals in for Chesterfield at the time. HOW WRONG WAS I...!!
Depending on the timing, could be about Gary Alexander who's just signed for Crawley - I believe he got 10 in 10 earlier this season? I tend to agree with Paolo about everything except Fascism and this is no different.
At least we could hopefully get some money for Clarke. Chesterfield will be back in for him come the summer.. hopefully??? Benno scores goals, but not much else. I would have liked him to stay, but with our midfield currently struggling to create, he wouldn't stand a chance.
Almost certainly about Clarke I was just about to write something very unflattering about PDC on the assumption that he was having a dig about BWP when, of course, he wasn't.
Just watched the highlights of the Swindon vs Daggers game and even though Benno's goal was only a one yard tap-in, his approach work for two of the other goals was excellent. I've been invited to the Swindon vs Cheltenham game tomorrow and it might well be worth a watch.
I liked Benno thought he added something different BUT to say hes better than BWP that is just total CRAP
