At last the voice of reason.... :)

With it being your first game in the prem and having brought a cracking support with you, if that was the best you can muster then you have to say you're going to struggle. And I know we all watch games through tinted glasses but the reason some Wigan fans booed the team off (disgraceful in my opinion) was because we've seen enough top flight football to know that with just a bit more ruthlessness we could have dispatched you without too much fuss. So to see all the comments that it's a good start for you - well, result aside I just don't get that. You were second best across the pitch, and we let you back into it with our usual scrapiness and lack of discipline. You could be playing today and you still wouldn't have scored without Ali's fumble. Just be reminded that that was your only shot on target.

Good luck and all that. In our first season we were written off by all and sundry - most famously that muppet Rodney Marsh - and I think it was good for the club to have something to prove against all the idiot punters.

it was a good result for us because we didn't play very well but still more than matched you and thoroughly deserved a point. we started the match incredibly nervously but second half we controlled the match - it wasn't until we tired that wigan pressed for a winner which they nearly got but it would have been harsh on either side for a winner to have been found. we will play ten times better than that this season and still get beat. we seem to start quite slowly and build up under lambert because he likes to initially give the players who got us up their chance. you basically played out team from last year - our new boys were on the bench, waiting for their chance to impress and from what i've seen, at least five of them are improvements on what we had before.

good luck for the season <ok>

Merson was spot on, I watched the whole match on my computer, we did not look good enough to stay up on that performance.

Really turgid stuff at times against a side who didn't play well either.

Poor quality at times, we cannot kid ourselves that further performances of a similar ilk are going to keep us up.

Hopefully the obvious nerves apparent two days ago will be exorcised by Sunday

I am not going to argue with what you have said. At times is was not great and I too was worried about some aspects BUT....................look at the bigger picture before slating the team as the media have done.
Most of the team on the pitch was last seasons team and PL has been loyal to them to give them a chance to see how they will (or not) cope at the higher level, as he did last season.
We have other players, who in my opinion, might have done a better job on Saturday and given Wigan more problems but PL is no fool and will do all he can to get as many points as possible. If that is not good enough at the end of the season then so be it but there is no point in being negative at an away point on the 1st day. It could have been worse - ask QPR fans how they feel today!

We need to allow at least 10 games to pass before we can start to think if we may or may not be good enough to survive and allow PL the time to try different players and tactics etc.
