Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has backed the club to record a resounding victory over Queen’s Park Rangers on Boxing Day, as he predicts Harry Redknapp to field a weakened side to deal with the festive schedule.

QPR face the Gunners at the Emirates on the 26th, before hosting Crystal Palace at home two days later, which Merson has highlighted as a more important, and winnable, fixtures for the Premier League strugglers.

Merson claims that Redknapp should focus on the Palace game by resting key players against Arsenal, which will then play into the Gunners’ hands and see them thump the relegation candidates.

“If I’m Harry, do I play my best team against Arsenal and maybe get something? Or do I rest a few and target the Crystal Palace game two days later?” Merson wrote for Sky Sports.

“A good manager like Harry will work this out and I’d be shocked if he had a full side out. I don’t blame him one bit if he doesn’t, because QPR are not likely to get anything at Arsenal.

“Palace at home is 100 times bigger than Arsenal away.”

QPR have been fighting their way out of the relegation zone, having enjoyed a spell of god form lately, but they are not expected to get much from the game at Arsenal, with Merson predicting a 4-0 win for the home side.

Charlie Austin has been firing consistently for Rangers this season, scoring a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion last time out and he will be vital over the busy festive period.

Arsenal have created 217 chances in the league this season

Yeah he only wishes that we let them take the easy 3 points, seeing as how they're struggling! But we won't lay down that easily! :1980_boogie_down:
