I'm stunned that the media have not picked up on how awful a job he's been doing at Villa up until very recently. They have the lowest amount of goals scored at this stage of the season since Derby (and any Premier League side actually). And we all know how it ended for them. He just doesn't seem able to inspire or motivate any of his players and has such naive tactics. You'd be hard pressed to believe this was the same man who gave Norwich back-to-back league promotions and subsequently finishing mid table in Norwich's first season back in the Premier League. He looks a shadow of the manager. Considering they have the likes of Carles Gil, Benteke, Agbonlahor, Weimann etc, who on paper are a real handful for a majority of teams, they should not have such a horrendous goalscoring record. I just can't understand how Lerner has allowed him to stay for this long at the club, they are getting worse every season without having any intent to truly improve the side. It was only 5 years ago when they were competing for the top four spot along with us, Spurs, Everton etc. It should not be coming to this. Here are some of the unwanted records Lambert has: - 25 wins, 26 draws and 50 losses out of 101 games managed - 2 wins in 21 games - 33 points from the last 120 available - Worst goals scored at this stage of the season since 1978 - largest defeat in their history when Chelsea hammered them 8-0 - 1 goal in 13 hours of football - Most defeats in one season in Villa's Premier League history - Most home losses in one season in Villa's entire history - Worst home record in a single season - Most goals let in during Villa's Premier League history - Least goals in all five levels of football across Europe Some of those really do illustrate just how awful a job is he doing. How is he still Aston Villa manager?
I agree, they don't have a bad squad but they can't seem to buy a goal nowadays. Stick Benteke in another decent team and he will start banging them in.
To be fair although they've been struggling for creativity and movement in their side, Benteke has been part of the problem in my view. He's not holding the ball up, seems to have lost his confidence to shoot and loses all aerial challenges. He's not bringing anything to the side, at the moment. When we hammered Villa 5-0, I honestly had no clue he was on the pitch because he was that poor and anonymous. Probably not a fair game to use as an example but he just seemed so disillisioned judging by his body language. Whether he needs a change of scenery or an arm round the shoulder I don't know but he needs to get his act together if Villa are going to stay up (which looks unlikely).
I haven't really been watching him, but from the Arsenal game and the little bits I've seen it looks like no-one is making any runs or movement around Benteke, so he's marked out of games and can't hold up the ball/play people in. He's probably very demotivated as well, as Lambert doesn't seem particularly inspiring.
Probably cause apart from Villa fans nobody else gives a single **** about them. One of the most pointless clubs going around, hope they get relegated.
They've scored less league goals than Charlie Austin. How he's escaped the sack is beyond me, frankly.
Bit harsh, I quite like them, and they, along with Everton and us are one of the teams with the longest stay in the top flight without being relegated. Even though Aston is a ****hole, I quite like their ground as well
Just seen the news - at long ****ing last! Not only were his tactics dull as dishwater, he had the personality to match. Arguably Villa's worst ever manager after McLeish. Not so sure about the timing of the sacking. Should have done it in January. Or a year and a half ago when it was evident he was doing a terrible job there.
Nowhere near as moronic as most of your views. And for the record, Villa are an utterly pointless club right now, their owner does not want to be there, but can't sell because he will make a loss, and is therefore in a state of limbo, with Villa going nowhere. Along with Newcastle and a few others, their owners have made them a club that is just happy not to get relegated and just take the cash every year, and not bother to win anything, achieve anything or entertain their fans. I would love to see these clubs relegated.
Nice 'know you are but what am I' style ripost. **** sake try harder mate. What the **** are you talking about? There isn't such a thing as a 'pointless' club. A pointless club would be one that has no fans and isn't in a league!! Last time I checked Villa have both of those and are in the top flight, and have been for yonks. It isn't the club's fault that people are allowed to come in a pillage them in order to make a few quid, and it certainly isn't the fans either. Wishing relegation on someone is your own choice/opinion but calling club 'pointless' is bollocks.
They are utterly pointless, their existences in the PL is pointless, just there to make up the numbers and take the cash, their owners deserve relegation. So yep, Villa in my view are currently a pointless club. So one final reminder for you, Villa are utterly pointless.
and that is total bollocks. You can repeat yourself and thumb up me as much as you like, you're still talking ****.
I don't think any club is "pointless". Lacking ambition yes, but not sure if pointless is the right word. However - Villa do deserve to go down purely because they have been flirting with relegation for ages now and Lerner has done nothing about it to help improve them. All they care about is finishing 17th and then telling the manager to be as frugal as possible. If you're going to do that, you're setting yourself up for trouble. They've appointed some terrible managers, namely McLeish who was a dour ****er, but I don't think anyone anticipated Lambert to be so bad as he did an excellent job at Norwich. And although I have given him plenty of stick, I still think Lambert is a decent manager. Villa just wasn't the right job for him.
