Paul Hayes completed his move from Charlton to Brentford yesterday on a free transfer signing a three year deal. After being shocked that we managed to secure Weston's transfer on a free, I wondered if we may have agreed to end our interest in Hayes to help push it through? Don't get me wrong, Weston looks ace and I'm happy but how often do agreements like that come into play?
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Weston wasn't free, doubt Brentford would just give us a player who is still under contract! However I do agree that if we did drop our interest in Hayes it may of helped complete the deal for weston. In reality however it may have just been the fact brentford are League 1 and we are League 2.
i think the fact that theyn got haye prob allowed them to let us have weston, highly doubt there was any agreement to stop chasing haye as it would have been his decision where he went
I don't think we had any chance of getting Hayes anyway. He had already said he wouldn't drop to league 2 and we had already signed Deon Burton so we weren't that bothered. I expect taking s Weston of off their wage bill helped to complete the deal, because Martin said that when he tried to sign Weston last season he was quoted 6 figures for him, which probably means he was on a fair bit of money at Brentford
