I was watching the news and saw the shocking pictures of Gasgoine and could only remember the three times I've seen him play live. A fair few of us would remember him at Home Park playing in that testimonial. I can't remember whose testimonial it was but will never forget the player and his relationship with the crowd. He scored a goal from miles out which was no flook and just showed the punters what he could really do if he wanted to. Fantastic sense of humour and the banter with the fans was something to behold. I also saw him at White Hart Lane in a cup match against Bradford. Just happened to be in London at the time and wanted to watch a match so picked that one. Wow is all I can say. His skills with the ball at his feet were just mesmerising.

To see him now is terrible and I fear he will kill himself before long because I just don't think he can stop himself. All of his problems down to drink and it shows that no matter how brilliant you might be at one thing gives no protection against your weaknesses. An absolute crying shame but the best player I've ever seen live.

Yes.....I had to look twice at the photo in the paper.....bared no resemblance to the player that we knew long back......he has been given lots of help over the years....but there is a self destruct button in the man......I think Gary Lineker was one of those that tried to help him.
