Somma, Bromby, Norris, Green, Connolly, Nunez - All on the treatment table, at least two of these players are unwanted by the club - Already it is starting to show how weak we are with depth.
Not sure we're as weak as some think. An opportunity for our yoof (academy players) to show what they're made of. Wouldn't want too many in for too long. But as temporary cover until people get off the injury list, Thompson, Byram, Poleon etc. Not bad cover. There's also the loan window now if we're really desperate.
Think your'e right. Also think Warnock is being clever constantly pointing out how weak our squad is. Deflecting media attention off us while keeping pressure on whoever is controlling the purse strings, Harvey or Bates, to sanction more players. Think his comment of we haven't a cat in hell chance of promotion with present squad was a tad tongue in cheek
Btw, anyone know what our player budget is this year? More money? Same as last year's pathetic kitty, or even less?
Yeah, I have to admit it's one thing Warnock is great at. He always seems to make the right comments in that respect, usually with some cloaked dig at the powers that be. As for depth, Green and Norris are out for another 4 weeks, 1 of those is an international week. Thompson did a reasonable job when he came in at the end of last season, and we've got Brown to come in as well. I think we'll be fine in that respect. They are the only two players I see as related to the depth issues at the minute though. Connolly, Nunez and Bromby obviously aren't in the plans so it's just a case of waiting out their injuries and getting shot as soon as possible, or as others have suggested with Nunez maybe call it quits and pay them off?
LiD, Bromby might be in Warnock's plans when he's fit. He can play CB, RB, or even a very defensive DM at a push. Always useful to have a solid utility player in the squad. He also had a bit of pace as well. As to the other two & without going over old ground, I think you're right. Think you're right Irish. Warnock's a clever operator.
I was thinking of the first team 11 and then who would now be on the bench, assuming the team is something like: Kenny, Peltier, Lees, Pearce, Drury, Diouf, White, Brown, Austin, Becchio, McCormack It would leave us a bench of Varney, Gray, Poleon, Thompson and Pugh For me that really is down to bare bones, another couple of knocks or a red card suspension and the bench will look awful. Already I have included two youth players and a transfer listed one. I agree it isn't panic stations yet but we could be one match away from that all changing. Warnock has said he hasn't much in the way of funding for even loan signings, we really needed to release the wage of Nunez and Connolly...
It's a sorry state of affairs that a club the size of Leeds United should be reduced to scraping the barrel and filling the bench with transfer listed rejects and youth players. We're also clutching at straws if we believe we've any strength in depth. There's nothing to fall back on whatsoever. The squad has no flair and no depth. Brown's got a hamstring injury, and if Austin comes back injured from international duty we're well and truly knackered.
Sorry I forgot him but... relying so much on youth players, yes give them some valuable game time but playing them week in and week out in the style Warnock is adopting (grinding out results) cannot be good for their development. Exactly - A few weeks ago we were ALL saying the squad had bite but we seriously lacked the icing on the cake players. Before Snoddy left NW said 2-3 marquee signings were needed, well without Snoddy that makes 3-4 and we all know they never happened. Instead now we are relying on the likes of Pugh and Gray to provide back-up, Diouf is our 'quality' midfield man, who would have guessed that 6 months ago? Now we are getting excited because the loan window is about to open. I sense a long season of discontent, NW has marked his intentions with his failed loan approach for Derry. There are not going to be any star names coming in on loan, grinders maybe and workhorses but no creative flair or spark...
The trouble with stocking up with players from an old folks home is that they pick up injuries more often. This really is no surprise and surely Warnock must have known he was going to have half of them rotating on and off the treatment table. We're not even into the winter months yet when it will really be tough on the body.
