QPR three man shortlist includes Real Madrid coach QPR have shortlisted Tim Sherwood, Steve McClaren and Paul Clement for the vacant managerial post. please log in to view this image Sherwood is favourite to take over at QPR. Credit: PA Harry Redknapp resigned from the Premier League strugglers on Monday citing knee problems as the reason less than 24 hours after failing to make any signings on deadline day. Sherwood is the clear bookies favourite having worked closely with newly appointed director of football Les Ferdinand at Spurs, but chairman Tony Fernandes is keeping his options open. McClaren is unlikely to leave Championship promotion chasers Derby County in the lurch at such a crucial period in the season, which suggests it will may be a straight fight between Sherwood and Clement, who is currently assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Clement is also the son of the late QPR goalkeeper, Dave Clement, who played 472 league games for the club.
Safety first: McLaren for me, a known quantity and top, top coach as Harry would have said. But, regrettably, why would he leave Derby for QPR?
McClaren please. No chance of that happening of course but the obvious choice notwithstanding. Knows the set up and most of the players and has already proved himself to the club as an excellent motivator and tactician. Everything 'Arry was not.
Dave Clement was a great 'keeper, whereas Pam St Clement was a first class midfielder. St Clement Danes was a crap striker though!!! F--king journalists!!!
Paul Clement would be a no brainer, top coach, 43 years of age, son of a Qpr legend whats not to like, Tony needs to be brave and get the man in and stop all this Sherwood bollocks
The issue I have with Tim Sherwood is experience, in that he has very little. Get Paul Clement, Eddie Howe or Karl Robinson in.
Clement is head and shoulders above any other available choice, the Real players hold him in the highest regard and I'm sure Ancelotti wouldn't want to lose one of his key staff. If TF is serious about our future he would be the man and be given the time and backing to rebuild the team and club, even if it meant us taking the drop this season. This has to be the biggest decision TF will ever make about our club, he can't afford to f*ck it up again...
I first read this on SportsMole at lunchtime. I have since read that McClaren had already ruled himself out as soon as a journo spoke to him after news of Harry's departure was known yesterday. (Can't remember where I read it,) Have ITV picked this up from Sports Mole or a more credible "source"?
Heart says Clement, but only if we gave him a full 5 years to sort the club out - a real root and branch job. Frankly I think the job is a poisoned chalice. No-one in their right minds would entertain being our manager at the moment. Sherwood is a novice - maybe that works with a team full of internationals that are not at the wrong end of the table - in that scenario the opportunity exists to take a few risks - but for a relegation threatened team of misfits and misfiring talent? Ferdinand is also a serious risk - he may be Rangers, but does he have the ability to be a number 1?
