What i don't get is . PB says basically the same interview as DC did a fortnight ago but got lambasted. I know he lost the plot a bit, but i just wonder if he indentified a lot that was wrong but ultimately didn't get the backing required. Sounds awful but i wonder if he could have saved us a few years given the opportunity. I'm not removing him from blame, but i think a few people **** themselves when he started looking into our failings and maybe closed ranks to protect themselves. Just an opinion guys. Tin hat on. Maybe an element of truth there Jon but Buckle was an out and out ****. He treated Gasheads with contempt and I for one will have a big fat smile on my face when/if Cheltenham go down. Not sure what went wrong at Chelt with Mark Yates. I rated him as a coach, even mentioned him when we were looking for a new gaffer a few seasons ago. On probably the lowest budget in League 2 he got them into the play offs in two consecutive seasons.
Good old ****le. His problem was that he was an obsequious little git. It could be that he was just a bad fit for our club, but I have a strong feeling that it will all end in tears for Cheltenham...
Things got pretty toxic while he was around. He brought in some decent players - Carayol was the pick of the bunch. And we had a good televised cup game at Totton. But he seemed out of his depth and his people skills were lacking.He'll probably do ok at a club like Cheltenham...
i get what you are saying JTS but buckle said to the fans to lower expections because we only experienced 2 previous promotions in the past. so he was basically saying expecting promotion was stupid as we only achieved it twice in over 125 years! but we had a high expectation due to just being relegated from league 1 meaning we would be one of the contenders in league 2. of course we dont have a god given right to go straight back up but we were one of the favourites to go up, we also had one of the biggest budgets in league 2, buckle was hired to be the man to take us back up to league 1, he bigged himself up to be the man to do it at the start of the season, he was trusted to bring in players to get us up, he brought in pretty much his own squad as we didnt have hardly any players left when he arrived. it was suppose to be a new start for the club with an up and coming hungry young manager who built up a good record with torquay. of course expectations was going to be high. the club raised our expectations in the summer in order to try and sell more season tickets. i doubt many would have got season tickets if when sitting low in the table we were told to lower expectations! we were struggling in league 2 and about 10-15 games were gone when he came out and said we need to lower our expectations. he could have said its still early in the season and things will improve but he didnt. he said to lower our expectations because we only had 2 promotions in our entire history so we shouldnt be aiming for promotion as it aint going to happen. sorry but thats not acceptable. he just spent all our budget on a brand new squad which should be capable of a play off finish minimum with the budget he was given. saying we should lower our expectations because we wont win promotion in a way is saying he wasted all of our money on players not capable and not good enough for a promotion push. we were then stuck with the crap he got in who were given long term contracts especially to injury prone players. which as a result has effected us for the last few seasons as the budget was effected by these signings. but with what DC said, that was aimed purely at a handful of fans who were abusive towards him saying we should be running away at the top of the table by now and believe we should be champions by xmas! he said so on radio bristol last night after the game. he is not saying we need to lower our expectations. he is still going for promotion. he said the other day dont write us off yet for promotion. he has said many times along with the board that our goal this season is promotion. he just disagrees with the handful of fans who thinks we should be champions by now. they need to get real. you cant compare what buckle said to what clarke has said
I always do with respect. As far as I am concerned, we are all gasheads and all want the best for our club even if we disagree how to get the best. We should be showing respect to each other. Thats why I havent joined the other forums and why I hated the official forum before it closed down. Too many keyboard warriors treating fellow fans with a total lack of respect. It would be rare to see that here JTS

JTS.......I agree that Buckle may have identified failings within the club, but as many have said above, he was an obnoxious little **** who offended so many good people that he was close to tearing the club apart. Also, he has achieved little other than get Torquay out of the Conference. He was quickly losing the fans at Torquay and achieved nothing at Rovers and Luton.
