One of the great technical directors ever in F1 has decided to retire and won't be part of the Williams F1 set up in 2012. Patrick Head has been part of the Williams team since its inception in the late 70's and has overseen the design of some fabulous F1 cars. His straight talking ways were admired throughtout the paddack and always made for good interview material. Here are a selection of the cars he looked over:- 1977 - Williams first F1 car please log in to view this image 1980 - First WDC please log in to view this image The more unusal 6 wheeler! please log in to view this image The fantastic Williams FW11/11B please log in to view this image The Williams FW14/14B techno-car please log in to view this image Damon Hill's FW16 please log in to view this image Various BMW powered machines (inc this Walrus!) please log in to view this image Sadly the results have dropped off over the years and Williams find themselves proopping up the midfield. Hopefully Head has seen that the time is right to hand the design team over to a new breed of designer/technician to take Williams back to the front of the grid again. Have no doubt we'll still see Patrick around the paddock from time to time. No way he could just walk away and forget about it all!
great man with an illustrious history and has served the team well but a series of mistakes and misthought has left williams on the edge of f1. Looking forward to the next chapter of the team
Good luck Patrick! Actually, I've thought for a very long time that you're better off without Frank…
End of an era. Head was Technical director when Williams won all nine of its titles. A true legend of F1.
