Full respect to the man,he is keeping his nerve regards the right quality of players coming in. Sam Baldock is obviously playing a waiting game. Seeing if better offers come along.
Of course he will.. We are willing to pay £1.5m for Baldock and his wages, its not like we aren't trying. I'm sure Maynard hasn't painted the rosiest picture of us for him to want to come here and as the betting odds are saying, we aren't by any stretch favourites to go up. Mcinnes is selling the club to these players and doing a damn fine job doing it, but they do have options. We may need to see good, forward momentum this season in order to get us in to that 'attractive group' of championship clubs that can get players of that quality. I firmly believe Delboy is the man to do that.
I think we're more concerned with our history of missing out on targets that we desperately need, only to buy duds at the last minute. We also need to take note that to some of the clubs in this division £1.5M is not a lot of money. I want us to land some good deals, but if a club is not able to compete financially then we'll look weak to a player. That being said, as much as I like the sound of Baldock I think McInnes is playing things right, as long as we don't make stupid signings later on to make up for what we didn't get. We still need a central defender, a creative midfielder (for the best part of four years) and a forward that can create. We've lost Gerrard, so we still desperately need to fill two holes. We've not entered the loan market yet, so we've got plenty of time. Personally, I'd love to see Bristol City inquire about a season-long loan for Ross Barkley from Everton. The guy fits the bill of what we need exactly. Also, Jose Baxter has had some decent appearances for Everton before he became a free agent. I'd love to see McInnes offer him a trial and a contract before the new season starts.
Can't really add much to that,Delboy is real quality,so I guess I'll just....READ -- UNDERSTAND -- APPLY..
"that to some of the clubs in this division £1.5M is not a lot of money" Really? I just looked through the transfer tracker for July And August, there are only 2 significant transfers so far that I could see, Leon Best to Blackburn at £3m (£12m parachute payment may help! he's also now out injured for 6 months.) and Hull paid £2.5 m for Nick Proschwitz ? Keogh £1m maybe? But you would certainly think £1.5m is a lot of money if it was coming out of your bank account, I know.. QPR bought Park ji sung for £2m FFS.
"we don't make stupid signings later on to make up for what we didn't get" Thats how we ended up with Nick Maynard? But we did early business with Damion Stewart and Nicky Hunt? (You choose?) I am also confident Jody morris will make a massive impact to our midfield (despite him being written off by MOST of our fans before kicking a ball for us!!) I am quite aware I am sticking my balls on the line here and will get vilified if our season comes off the rails, but I am VERY confident we are going be ok.. However, We will see...
I put on another thread I believe we will be lower mid-table with our existing players,so my balls my be rattling as well,I thought Jody Morris looked the part as well. We still need additions but when you have got genuine leadership at the top instead of DVD readers, the battle is half won.
"All in all preparations have gone well but we're still working hard behind the scenes to bring in a couple of additions into the squad. Hopefully we will have those in place before the Gillingham game" Derek McInnes, Bristol City World, 09 08 2012
Last season West Ham spent over £7M in transfers to push their already strong squad towards promotion, and I'd hate to see how high their wages are. Naturally, we're not West Ham, but money talks and if we're pinching pennies on players like Baldock we'll look unable to compete. Baldock would be a starter if he joined, but he'll also want to know that a club that was dangerously close to relegation last season could strengthen if required. It's no different to the average person wanting to work at a company that will challenge them. My main worry is that we'll ditch deals when a team wants a bit more, and we'll end up buying players from the bottom of the list like we've done before. Signing a bad player is a worse financial move than spending a bit more money on a good player. These days £50 is a lot to come out of my bank account...
"Last season West Ham spent over £7M in transfers to push their already strong squad towards promotion, and I'd hate to see how high their wages are" You're right we aren't West Ham.. and thats how Portsmouth started too.. West Ham have already agreed the fee for Baldock so its down to the player to make his mind up, so its not about them wanting a bit more. He has two (main) choices, He may like being at West Ham, he may have good mates there and enjoy going training day to day, he may like living in london and he may be thinking 'all my hard work getting us back to the Prem and then I get dumped' **** that, I'm confident in my own ability and I am certainly better than Nick Maynard, I'm staying and I'm fighting, things can change in football very quickly. I just need a chance. Or, Move to another team (us hopefully) This means settling in and moving your family (if not a London club) making new mates (easy for some, hard for others) probably a pay cut. but on the up side will go up the pecking order for game time. He knows nothing about Bristol as a city (except that we cant even build a new ground somewhere) but will have been impressed by Delboy. Thats a very human choice, it wont ALL be about how much football he will get, but that will definitely be highly influential. We would all make a different choice.
'Thats how we ended up with Nick Maynard?' My memory says it was because that Egyptian who was pictured after signing at AG holding his City shirt then went awol on Johnson. It was very late in pre-season and SL went back to Crewe almost in panic and offered another 500k for Maynard making it £2.25 million. Not sure if we'd have ever bought Maynard if the Egyptian hadn't done a runner. Have to say I'm worried about the 3 positions (the Spine) that we seriously lack. Until they sign on the dotted line we will remain relegation fodder.
Just been announced that Caulker is to be included in the squad for the Italy game It begins... (Something Millen got very right methinks)

I'm sticking my balls on the rack as well, with what we got here already we wont be relegation fodder. We have a leader now, we have a better set up in the coaching, hopefully better physios as well to prevent our injuries. **** sake, glad the Olympic team, (not talking football) didn't give a **** before these games, people thought we we be ****e in that as well. Anyway I'm off to get pissed in Cardiff and be my annoying self as my wife puts it
Ah yes, Emad Moteab! Egyptian players tend to be largely unprofessional so I wasn't surprised to see that deal go down the ****ter. Funnily enough he kept scoring for fun after and was bought by Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, only for him to walk out on them after a while. They severed his contract and he went back to his old club, where he continued to cause trouble. I think he's a free agent now. Anyway, we had put in a bid for Maynard during the Moteab saga so we would have probably gone in for both of them. It's a shame it didn't work out because I remember all the hype and how he was going to be lethal in the Championship. Absolutely. We've needed this "creative midfielder" for the best part of four years and he still hasn't arrived. That's the area where I would be happy to spend.
"Anyway, we had put in a bid for Maynard during the Moteab saga so we would have probably gone in for both of them" Nope, we said that was dead as it was too much money and we had to go back and pay it when the Moteab saga fell apart. You both seem very good at spending other peoples money on superstar signings that wouldn't even consider coming here anyway. It all seems very easy sat in your living room doesn't it.
