Every ****ing week I get a ****ing message from Gus asking me to be patient. Nah, I've been patient for 40 ****ing years, just ****ing entertain me ffs.
I would prefer to stick it out with Gus rather than get a new manager, have a surge in form and be back in the same spot a year later. THAT's what I'm tired of.
Me too mate but ffs. We'll never win the league so why put out such a dreary formation in the FA Cup? This year's competition will be won by someone we call inferior, mark my words.
Played the 5-3-2 to get used to it for the league, and I can see why he would play Rodwell as the advanced midfielder, seemingly it was a good chance for him to get a goal and express himself, evidently not. Nevertheless it's not really good enough to not score vs a lower league opposition at home. I follow your philosophy of that we'll never win the league so we should just go for any glory we can in the cup competitions, to just win a cup would be brilliant. I ****ing love a cup run and I think Gus does as well, always plays a senior team. Got today wrong though, certainly. With the teams that went out today going out there is an opportunity and I really hope we seize it.
I tend to think the formation is not "dreary" more that the side are lacking confidence (only game we've not lost this year was against Leeds prior to yesterday after all) and trying to adapt to a new formation which suits the lad we've just signed.
We must keep Gus and believe he knows wht he's doing.give him time another change is not the answer at this stage.
The thing is, Vince, at Xmas I'd have said another change isn't the answer as well. But every year, as we get closer to the end of the season, it looks increasingly like it is the answer! I look at the squad, and I can't really say it's a bad one. So why are we fourth from bottom ... again? I can understand Ellis Short scratching his head, because I'm scratching mine as well.
The problem is that if we sack Gus (as more and more people are calling for) there aren't really any obvious replacements out there. If we got, say, Tim Sherwood in, we'd probably have a brief upturn in form due to the new manager effect, then gradually realise that his lack of experience is costing him, the team's form would dip, and the whole vicious cycle would repeat itself again, ad nauseum. It's bloody depressing.
It doesn't help GPs cause when teams who have taken the plunge and changed managers have had the 'reaction' the owners craved. Did anyone honestly see Palace / WBA going on the run they have under such 'amazing tacticians' like Pardew / Pullis ?!?!
The worrying fact for me is that teams around us look like (and are) scoring goals. The 3 teams devoid of ideas and with the least goal threat are QPR / Villa / Us.
What we need is a bit of unity among all who care for the club at times like this, but yesterday from the very first whistle to the last I sensed that the vast majority of the crowd were either not going to bother their arses to back the side or take the first opportunity to get on their backs which they did.. Gus has also got to take his share of responsibility regarding this with our brand of very defensive and negative football, and also some member of a squad (Rodwell in particular) looking unfit and overweight..
Until we can get a centre half with pace. We will continue to play "deep" as teams with pace will crucify us otherwise. This in turn means we always recover the ball from deep in our own half. A hig pressing game would brides but we don't have the players to do that. The lack of pace throughout the team means we struggle.
Just watching Bristol City v West Ham, City are playing 5 at the back but they are playing it the way it should be played, their centre backs are carrying the ball forward to West Ham's 18 yard line, the two full backs are giving them width. Steve Cotterill has got them playing the way we can only dream of and West Ham are struggling to contain them. I should really hate them, but because of the way they are playing, I hope they stuff the hammers
I agree partially but that formation IMO is not a defensive one. Far from it. Jermain Defoe playing in his own half due to lack of service? Cattermole and AJ will bring more impetus. I expected Rodwell to give more but he appeared to have an attack of "the Gardners" whenever he got inwards of 30 yards from goal!! So far he's a £10m player no better than the one we let go to West Brom. Probably not as good!!
How many times has Gus criticised the ability of our players this year. If they're lacking in confidence, he's not doing his job.
Great point, he's claiming our boos are counter productive while putting his own players down in the press. Short should sew his ****ing lips shut.
I don't think Smug is advocating changing Gus and like many, I'm still very much a Gus Poyet fan personally. However, I see only major problems if Gus starts with the 'its the fans fault' or 'we must be patient' line in the press. We are better off than last seaon, where we didn't get out of the bottom 3 until the last 6 games of the campaign but the football is garbage to watch. I think we have a pretty decent squad but we are not getting the best out of them IMO. We need to see more of Giacherinni and Alvarez in the team to add pace and flair for Defoe to prosper. Fulham was the perfect chance to give these lads a run out for 90 minutes and would have been much more beneficial than the likes of Rodwell or Wickhams involvement. Get on with improving the dire football Gus and leave the fan assaults alone. That's the slow painful road to ruin IMO.
