With the news that we have had another bid for Martin Paterson turned down, do you think it's about time SC focused on other targets? A lot of people have been saying that £2.5 million is too much for Paterson anyway. I think i disagree with this, Paterson would be a great signing and i think £2.5 million is about right, he is a decent young striker and proven at this level. I think the fact that he has had a few injury problems in the last few seasons would mean that i wouldn't bid any higher. If we want a striker who is going to score goals we are going to have to pay good money for them. Is £2.5 million too much? If we have the money i would like SC to put bids in for Billy Sharp (Might be too much) and Iain Hume (Although he has said he is committed to Preston this season maybe we could persuade him) I really hope SC has got a backup for Paterson because we really need a centre forward!
I can't help but think there is a bit of brinkmanship going on, on the part of Burnley. I think if SC bides his time and no-one else makes an offer, he will be on his way down South in a week or two.
I think the fact that they are both English pushes their price up quite a bit. British players are always more expensive (eg Andy Carroll £35 million is a joke) and i think that it is the same at this level. So if you want British talent then you must be willing to pay the price for it.
Palace had a bid of £500,000 rejected for Danny Ings from Bournemouth. Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell said that he only consider offers around the £1,000,000 mark. I think with a bit of negotiation (maybe a clause or two in the contract) we could get him for under a mil. He can score goals and works hard. Would also leave us with a good bit of money for another winger/midfielder!
Danny Ings from Bournemouth isn't a bad shout , or what about a cheeky bid for Adam LeFondre from Rotherham ? Not a big lad, but scores plenty of goals.
Glad we didn't sign him now, far to injury prone.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/burnley/9559589.stm
