http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddballs/902284-parma-sew-names-of-season-ticket-holders-into-new-shirt I think this a great idea to thank fans for supporting them.
Yep, a computer program would work out the stitching arrangements, leaving the designer to design. My brother is a retired upholster, but he's kept up with the knowledge, and it crosses over too, so he's informed me on a few things.
There's a link to Alaves doing the same thing, and it's a similar idea to a kit Man U had circa '95 - had the names of club legends sewn in to the material as well as the original club badge. Looked like a Sheffield Wednesday top, as it was based on their kits in the 1900's. Was also worn during that great 'Gray' kit fiasco game at the Dell! Nice idea for Parma, doing well again and a team just like Saints that's had to deal with administration and often having to sell their better players.
Nice gimick, suppose thats one way to make you shell out for a new shirt unnecessarily. Bit like those Poetry books where they put everyone in the classes poems in then sell them to the parents at 10 quid a pop.
I suppose that they could try it at Pompey. You would probably be able to read the names from the stands since the writing would be a bit bigger.
The club seriously did seriously consider sewing the names of every Portsmouth season ticket holder in their kit but decided sewing ten names in would look ridiculous.
You've still got your humour intact, PL. The way the Pompey fans are behaving on this Not606 forum, I would say that if your club were to fold, without there being a phoenix club rising out of it, I'd happily invite you lot to become Saints fans, if you could stomach it.
What would it take to make you a Pompey fan, SecondStain? I would give up football first and so I suspect would Lampras, though of course they are always welcome here.
That's a good question! I've never 'hated' Pompey, but I'd feel like a complete turncoat to ever support them as 'my' team. Having said that when I've been to watch games at Fratton Park I've been a neutral more than anything. Most Saints I'm sure would take an Aldershot or Eastleigh, tho I've no idea which team Pompey fans would take...Basingstoke or Reading?
Well I was using a rapier, but you decided that the lump-hammer was the better weapon. It's the same gag, anyway. By the way, Lampras, I have just seen your profile page. I didn't stay long as the colours might have brought on a seizure.
Yep, as St Phoenix says [appropriate name in the context] that's a good question. If Saints disappeared altogether without a phoenix club rising out of it, I might give up football supporting altogether, as nowadays I'm not really a football fan per se, but a Saints fan. But I'm also a fan of the region. I instinctively love Hampshire and the South of England [including the IOW], all the way to the tip of Cornwall. Having lived in Kent for several years, I also have a soft spot for there too, nowadays. So, although I would probably not be able to follow any other club wholeheartedly, I'd possibly start to follow the fortunes of all of them and eventually follow one closely. And I wouldn't rule out Pompey [if they were still around] as being the one which might stand out.
Thanks! Would be nice to visit St Mary's and I have nothing against Southampton, but I doubt I could have the same passion for Saints as I do for Portsmouth I'm afraid. Well, it was 8 but Portsmouth just recently announced with much aplomb that they had sold another two season tickets! I would go for Farnborough I think, but saying that on the two occasions I've been there, they've played some fantastic music over the tannoy at Basingstoke. Ha! Glad you liked my profile page though. I might change the colours on the left hand column though, but still keeping the overall theme of the page.
For me it would have to be Reading but it would be a very sad day if there wasn't our favourite club to support which is why I hope the Trust manage to get their hands on Pompey and Trevor Birch can get rid of the current crop of players who are inflating the wage bill to unsustainable levels. Pompeylampras and Pompeymeowth should have their beloved Pompey to support.
Although we never went out of business, Saints are like a phoenix club rising from the ashes with all the changes introduced by Nicola. Cortese had a dream of running a club in a certain way and we just came along at the right time with some of the features he wanted, so we are really Nicola's Dream Team.
