I've been banging on about 4-3-3 for a bit as a few of you boys have......

    http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport...-insists-newcastle-boss-alan-pardew-1-6954149

ALAN Pardew says Newcastle United’s rivals will try to smash the system that has lifted the club out of the doldrums.

But Pardew’s hoping his reinvigorated team can be unbreakable over the coming weeks and months.

Newcastle climbed to eighth in the table after a fourth successive Premier League victory last weekend.

Goals from Fabricio Coloccini and Ayoze Perez gave the club a deserved 2-0 away win over West Bromwich Albion.

United are also in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup, where they will meet Tottenham Hotspur next month.

The club’s upturn in fortunes has coincided with a switch to the 4-3-3 formation used during the 2011-12 campaign when United finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League.

Pardew, however, knows Newcastle’s opponents will attempt to get to grips with the system.

“I couldn’t be more pleased,” said Pardew, whose side were languishing in the relegation zone a month ago.

“I don’t know the stats behind the run – I’ve not really analysed them at the moment – but all I do know is we look a good side.

“We look a side that is very, very powerful, has great variation that I can change, and our system is causing teams problems.

“The other teams will get to grips with it, and we’ll have to ask a different question.”

Pardew – who has often used a 4-2-3-1 system at Newcastle – says he’s “happy” for the opposition to have the ball.

“We’ve played that system with some successful teams here, with different teams,” said Pardew, whose side return to action on November 22 against Queens Park Rangers at St James’s Park.

“We played it when we finished fifth. We played that system at the start of last year.

“But this team has a different make up to those two teams.

“Those teams were about possession, this teamis quite happy not to have the ball. It can be just as dangerous without the ball – perhaps even more of a threat at times.”

It's been good so far, but like he says, teams will start to adapt against it and so therefore we'll have to adapt it as well.

It certainly works well when you have the right players to suit the system. Sometimes that means picking a team where one or two selections may look odd, in terms of one of the better 'ball players' not necessarily starting. But that is to suit the system, not just about sticking your (supposedly) 'best' XI on the pitch. I think it's a stronger manager who goes for a solid system, even when that means leaving somebody with flair out. It's easy to shout about who should be in the team, but there has to be a system and players who fit that system. Right now, Pards seem to have found a system that does match the personnel available.

Whatever else I may say or think of him individually, I have to give Pards credit for experimenting, giving the young lads a chance and even bringing out the best in players like Obertan.

Fair play to Pards yes. Results don't lie.
The 4-3-3 seems to be some kind of secret turbo boost button.. a bit like kitt in Knightrider where Michael would flick the special switch to get himself out of the ****e for a short while... before the 'extra juice' ran out and things returned to normal.

Personally I don't think we currently have the right style of CMs to play 4-4-2

It all sounded quite good until the very last sentence. We are sometimes more of a threat without the ball. Can someone explain to me how that works? We force them into scoring own goals do we. How do they come up with this bolxxxks.
We certainly are comfortable without dominating possesion but that's because we currently have two holding midfielders who clean up in front of the back four and play quick simple passes allowing us to break quickly. While Tiote is probably our best defensive midfielder sometimes he holds onto the ball for to long which doesn't suit the current system.

Bang on the money and well aware of the pitfalls. Most of the morons in the stands want two up top and us to dominate teams. We don't have the personnel or the quality. He deserves a lot of credit for doing things his way and using what we have. We are not a top 8 squad but he has us punching above our weight quite significantly. Eventually teams will adapt and this is when he'll struggle. Firstly because of his limitations, secondly because the club doesn't have the options. Just going to enjoy it while it lasts.

You don't need to force them - they do it for fun.

Considering the vocal campaign for him to resign I very much doubt he is listening to the fans.
