Newcastle's excellent start to the season has seen some of Pardew's big names linked with moves away.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini has been linked with Liverpool, whilst Chelsea have been credited with an interest in midfield enforcer Cheick Tiote.

And whilst Pardew admits that players could leave in January, he insists it would take huge money to persuade them to do a deal.

"It is going to cost a hell of a lot of money, a hell of a lot of money because we're in that position now," he told the Sunday Mirror.

"I think any of our players that get linked to other clubs, those clubs are going to need to know they'll need to pay a shed load of money to get anyone out of this football club.

"I don't envisage anyone going out in this window, but if a club, one of the top clubs, comes in and wants to pay way, way over the odds we'll have to look at it."

By that I hope he means that we'd sell if we get a 35m offer like the one we got for Carroll.

It only worries me that they think 20m is over the top for Tiote as we only paid 3.5m for him and that Coloccini at the age of 31 should leave if we were offered 10m or so.

It's going to be a long January , although I hope I'm wrong about that. His words don't comfort me. Had he said "Our top players aren't for sale at any price" I would have felt better , however we know that under Ashley every player has his price tag.

On incoming transfers this is what Pardew said :

"We have looked at the African Nations Cup and we have looked at the next window."

"I think the maximum we would do is two players in. That would be our maximum. Then if anyone left, it would be a third."

Well he doesnt want to look like an idiot again after Carroll, would we really be that upset if we got stupid money for one of our players? Carr has found them and will have replacements being scouted just in case.

he's just saying what is a fact at every club (with probably the exception of man city) that every player has his price, while i wish he wouldn't say it as it makes me nervous but it's nothing out of the norm.As for the signings i read it as 2 coming in and any leaving will be replaced ie simmo, smith, guthrie (if he doesn't sign) etc.

No but my point is that they think 10m for Coloccini is stupid money because he's 31 or that 20m is stupid money for Tiote because we only spent 3.5m on him in the first place and that we could possibly get a cheaper replacement for him.

As I said I hope I'm wrong but would anyone be surprised?

i don't think it will be pieters (see my other ramblings on him) due to his agent unless there is a major shift in attitude from the said agent

To be fair to Pardew though, its once bitten twice shy. He has learnt that its not up to him and it was a stressful time for him last time when he made the big promises. I appreciate his honesty and he's not saying anything I didn't already suspect.

How do we know they think that? Tiote and Colo have been linked with 20 and 10 million moves but Carroll's fee was so high because he had been expected to leave for 15-25 million, and 35 was way over that.

Hardly confidence inspiring stuff although likely Pardew is being more realistic these days
having had MA's decisions go against his wishes/comments. With Lamearse and MA, I can
see loans happening more than signings too as the Africa Cup is going to be seen as a
temporary blip in the current squad numbers.

I meant to say that they could think that that's stupid money.

As I said I'd be happy to be proven wrong but I'm not looking forward to January at all.

"I don't envisage anyone going out in this window" shows they have, obviously, no plans whatsoever to ship out any of the players. So unless a mental 30m+ bid comes in, we should see everyone staying. Smith, Lover, everyone.

And if Tiote does go, lets just fleece Chelsea for everything. They paid 50 for Torres. I want 60 for Tiote!! + Sturridge <whistle>

It's not in Pardew's hands though is it so he's just laying his position down before things get more uncomfortable?
Another problem he has is the fact he'll answer ANY hack's question (however stupid it may be) with a straight
answer! Whatever the club, (OK, with a few exceptions), the decisions are made by the likes of MA/Lamearse.
    Lamearse will just come over with the whole, "it's just good business getting an astronomical price paid for a player;
it'd be stupid not to accept a massive fee in cash upfront".

Unfortunately he has form with this thinking after all.

Good point AH, if Tiote wants to go to Chelsea then take them for all they've got, they're happy to pay way over the odds for a player, and they were offering Sturridge for Modric towards the end of negotiations with Spurs so we could even try and get him, should the deal happen.
