Alan Pardew insists Newcastle are in the market to buy a top-class striker this summer.

The Magpies are yet to reinvest most of the £35million they received for Andy Carroll and Sports Direct, the business belonging to club owner Mike Ashley, has announced profits of £200.4million.

Pardew may have already missed out on Kevin Gameiro and Gervinho this summer but he believes Newcastle have the resources to compete for 'all available strikers'.

Paris St Germain's Mevlut Erding remains among his targets and the Toon boss is determined to land a proven goal-getter before the start of the season.

"I don't really want to mention names, but all strikers who are available, we are keeping a close eye on," he said.

"It's important that we keep bolstering the team as best we can.
    Right players

"We have obviously been looking for a striker - we are still bidding for a striker as we speak - so we are doing all we can to get the right players for Newcastle.

"It's not easy, it's not an easy market - strikers are always the most difficult to get across the line - but we are working hard on it."

Pardew has so far managed to bring in Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid.

But he has admitted that his remaining transfer activity will be put on hold until Newcastle discover if they have been successful in their pursuit of their top target.

"It depends, really, on the attacker that we hope to secure," Pardew said.

"There has been talk of the money we have got in and where has it been spent. But you would be surprised with the deals we have done, it actually amounts to a fair bit.

"We have got enough to bring a striker in of the right ilk for this football club, and that's what we need to focus on. When we secure that player, then we will look again."

Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia is unlikely to return to St James' Park, though, as Aston Villa look set to sign him as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Stewart Downing.

"I am told that Charles has got an imminent move, so I don't think that will be us," Pardew added.

aye, if we just added 5m to our 35m and bid 40m for him we might get him :emoticon-0110-tongu

oh wait a minute we,ve spent that already :emoticon-0102-bigsm and would have to sell enrique and tiote for 20m just to pay his wages.

more importantly would his family be able to settle on sunny tyneside???

There is somebody called Sturridge. Why does he not just get him ffs. I hear C.Cole has turned Stoke down, if he joins us I will flip.

I think its Bendtner and this worries me. I cannot see Sturridge coming due to wages etc and I believe Chelski will play him this season.

Could be Long which I would welcome but he has no premiership experience so this could be a risk.

    I hate this! HATE IT!

I think Shane Long would be a good buy, Bendtner is just crap, slow and a poor finisher.

I think I'm the only person that likes Bendtner. I think a long run in the team and he would be very good.
Still young and seems like he's been around forever.

    Let the onslaught begin.......

You complete tool are you serious... nah I am kidding your welcome to your opinion. He may be a good player in the right team. But that team is not us and we cannot afford him a long run in the tea, before he comes good. We need someone who can come in and do a job straight away. Its his attitude that many dont like I believe. He thinks hes the best player in the world and yet hes very lazy. A poor mans Berbatov.

I also like the lad I think given a chance and a long run in the team he could develop into a great player.

No i completely agree, when we played them in the cup he was brilliant. Given a full season i think he'd score 15 goals, can't be that bad...Real Madrid used to get linked to him all the time!
