I've seen pards getting a lot of bad press regarding the transfer window and i think its a bit unfair to be honest. he's openly stated that himself and graham carr identify players its then the job of those upstairs i.e. llmbias and Charney to broker the deal. pards just manages the team and uses his personal as best as he can. he had to repeatedly come out and try to pacify fans when the players he was assured he'd sign weren't coming through and he ends up with egg on his face. but thats part of being the manager. he can eithe rcome out and say nothing or he can try and be honest about whats going on.

i think people need to realise that pards is probably more disappointed than any of us that he didn't end up getting a new striker but i think its righ that we only pay what a player is genuinely worth rather than throwing cash around on average strikers. if its not going to be an improvement then whats the point?

agreed! i like pardew, think he is a good gaffa, with a few quid to spend could be quality, but does fantastic with what he has got and him and carr have spent well with what they have been given

He has to work with the most difficult, tight owner in the league and has managed to sign 7 players. Would have liked a striker but we've done well all the same.

pardew is the person who i feel most sorry for he has to manage a team and keep the fans happy. i'm sure he would have wanted a new striker as much as us unfortunately he has to deal with those twats ma and dl who clearly couldnt care less but he is the one that face the press and take the stick not them.

i think when you look at who we have signed you have to say we've got fantastic value for money. some one mentioned on here the other day that ben arfa, cabaye, santon and tiote cost £20m approx to sign. compare that to the £20m liverpool paid for jordan henderson and you see we've done very well. thats not even mentioning the free transfers. demba ba cost west ham something like £7m only 6 months before we got him for free.

I have sympathy with him. He has been made to look a right tit by the board with his "we'll get them over the line" comments re: a striker and a left back. They haven't tried hard enough for him and he could not have made it any plainer that we were desperately short up front. You can lead the horse to the water but you can't make them drink it.

Totally agreed, we have to hope that Pardew can bring consistent success on the pitch and essentially force Ashley to back him or sack him.

whether we're disappointed with the lack of new striker or not i'd say that charney and llambias deserve a fair bit of credit for getting those players in the for the money we did. love them or loathing they've done well. don't let the lack of striker or the fact there wasn't a massive amount spent blind you on that.

has this not been tried in this transfer window ???
certainly hasn't backed him in the strikers position
Pardew was better off saying nowt, but made a rod for his back with this 35million promise from Arsley
for me Pardew has lost credibility, for promising a striker when in reality Arsely and Lambsarse where laughing behind his back as he made those comments

don't let the lack of striker blind us ?

blind us to what ? we are seriously deficient in one of the most importat parts of the team. that is, and should be, a worry, and one to which we should not be blind

At the moment one could be forgiven for assuming Pardew is still indebted to Ashley for giving him the job in the first place. Eventually it will hopefully get to the stage where he's able to convincingly pull off an ultimatum.

just what has the man done to offend you so much? he's done pretty well with meagre resources and he's at least tried to make the board above him accountable putting his own neck on the line in the process. he publicly said that money would be spent and strikers would be purchased even though he's not the one holding the purse strings. hes tried to turn the screw on the board to make purchases buit when it didn't happen its his head on the block.

as for being 'seriously deficient' we were still competetive after the loss of carroll last year and we've been bolstered by a very good striker in Ba since then too. he hasn't set the wolrd alight yet but he'll come good. he's scored everywhere he's went and if he was scoring in that piss poor west ham side he'll score more for us in all likelihood. we'd have all loved a new striker but we'll be fine with what we have.

I will reserve judgment untill he gives us the excuse for exactly WHY we failed to bring in a striker.

Forget the other players for me. I'm pleased with the business we've done in them areas, quite shrewd with costs reduced and quality actually gone up in certain areas. That is their job though and they have to get all areas of the pitch right. The priority since January 2011 has been a striker. Ample time. Just a massive epic fail on the part of the board. We go in weaker by virtue of the lack of goals in our squad. To me this is very poor judgement by our board.

i doubt he'll ever pull off an ultimatum as he'll have known the constraints of the job from the off. he'll have been told he won't be getting a fortune for players but the lure of managing a club of our stature when on the managerial scrap heap was enough to make him bow to the terms and conditions.

    We'll be fine ?

It's a definitional thing I guess. We won't be relegated. Is that being fine ?

by fine i mean we'll still be competetive gunning for a top 10 place which is a realistic target. we're not the team we used to be and we need to accept that.
